armstrong4140 0
Just wanted to take a moment to say hi and introduce myself. I was stationed in Germany in the late eighties and the first half of 90. Had my eye on one of those shiny new Carver amplifiers at the PX. Never could quite save enough money tho. Ended up with a Kenwood system that only lasted about six years, but I remember how good it made my new Infinity's sound with it's 150Watts rms per channel. I never forgot about that Carver, a buddy bought one and it was amazing. Well here I am 25 plus years later and recently decided to see if they still made them or not. Was disappointed to find out they are out of business. Was Impressed when I stumbled onto this site. Long story short, I've become familiar with several of the models out there thanks to this site. Was very Impressed with what I read about the mark II's. I was also Impressed at how long these Carver amps last. Found several PM1.5a's on Ebay that were at least cosmetically pretty good, so I studied up on pro amps and decided to bid on a few. Finally ended up with my first Carver amp. A PM1.5a., I only ended up paying $170.00 so i figured even if it needed recapped or something I might come out ok. To my surprise this 27 year old amp sounds pretty good, lots of power. Seems the pro amps have more features than the plain M1.5t. and I finally got my old Infinities bumpin and thumpin again. I've a limited knowledge of basic electronics, was a Master Auto Tech for about twenty years. I hope to learn how to recap, service and adjust this amp before It actually needs it. Shouldn't be too much of a stretch with all the good info here. Well so long for now. armstrong4140

zumbini 6,140
Howdy armstrong4140 and welcome to the forum. Nice to have you on board. Congrats on the new (to you) PM-1.5a. The PM-1.5a (and rebadged PM-1200) is basically an M-1.5t on steroids (with balanced inputs and exhaust fans). The weak point on both amps are the 50/80v dual-can low/mid rail caps which are located under the input board. Member and ebay seller circuitsandconcepts makes this replacement daughter board that fits without modification: Here's one of the engineered daughter boards installed in an M-1.5t: (more about the install ==> M-1.5t Dual-Can (50v/80v) Capacitor Replacement ) ENJOY THE MUSIC!
fill35U 1,845
Welcome to theCarversite, armstrong! I like the PM-1.5a myself, a little less refined than the PM-1200, but with the anthracite. Please show us some pics, we love pics.

pindrop 330
Welcome armstrong4140. Many of us are finally able to own what we coveted in the 80s/90s. With the Feds printing presses hard at work, that $700+ we plunk down for these fine pieces of electronics would have cost us $2044.00 in 1980 when the average median income was $16,700.00. Gosh should I be feeling wealthy or just happy I got what I wanted? It's a bargain from my OCCD world.
