No binding post upgrade, no RCA upgrade, no LED mod... and it doesn't look like he parallel-doubled the power diodes.

Interesting that he's not moving it at $475 though...

$475 for an MkII, yet most bone stock M-500(t) are selling for $550+. Yeah, I'd pass if I were looking.

Is that... sarcasm?  I'm actually considering that amp for my ADS L1290/IIs.  Or at least the bottom half of them, if bi-amping would work better.  Of course, I'd rather have one up to carversite.com specs, but that's a pretty good price for a recapped M500, it seems to me.  Am I missing something?

A M500 would be a nice amp for your ADS speakers... A M500T would be just a little nicer with those ADS soft dome tweeters.. If I were you I would hold out for the "T" model, but thats just my opinion.. I have heard a couple models of ADS with the M500T and it is a very nice combination and very enjoyable.. Hope this helps..

The CarverMk2 techs provide a warranty (see Carver M-500 mk II specifications ), which may be an added bonus. You may want to enquire from the seller for any such provisos, if available.

BTW, welcome to CS,  wgibso ! The L1290s are nice.

Thanks, that is helpful.  I'm kicking myself SO HARD for missing a 500T last night on that other auction site.  Oh, well, I'm prepared to be patient.  It's not like I don't have more amps to try...

Welcome wgbiso.  This is a great place to be, find information and get good advice.  We also have some fun, from time to time.

You are in the Pacific Northwest..., I imagine that you might find a good 500t on CraigsList up there.  Avoiding the risk that you take with Ebay.  I see them here in Chicagoland, on Craigs, for the $300-$350 range - unmodded.   With Craigslist, you can check out the cosmetics, and how well it was cared for.  If it's a Mod you want, then you've saved shipping, and cost of risk (carrier damage) and can start from a clean solid unit, having it recapped and modded, and end up with a darn good setup with a warranty.

I think that the biggest risk of an amp on ebay, priced high, or low, or just right, is that when it arrives, it is not what the photos showed, or gets damaged by a carrier..., that may be the hesitation some have.

...just thinking out loud.

Welcome to the site - and good luck in finding your target amp!
