I was looking at the" early C1 early model 1982 version C" post that was shared earlier.. That is one of the better looking boards I have seen so far..

Anyone else notice the variations in boards seem wide.. Have seem many that were very nice and also seen quite a few that have loose traces and pads that will lift if your not careful..

Was it a difference in vendors of the boards that caused this?

Is there anyway to know which ones were better, like by order of serial #..

It would be useful when shopping if the serial # could be an I.D. for the board inside..

They work fine either way, but if shopping, I'd rather get the ones with the better looking boards.. Since we can rarely see inside, any correlation with S/N would be great..

Just wondering if anyone ever made this correlation or if it is possible?

Hiyas,
I just don't have enough experience with Carver to say for sure about the quality of the traces. I can say that C-1's I've worked on (two) have had nice boards and traces. Ya, some heat damage on the amps (TFM-25 and m-200t) but the C-1's have been in good shape.
The two I've worked on are this C version and an "E" version.

These Carvers are easy to work on....

I'll start taking pics.. Once in a while you'll see one with quite a bit of trace separation from the board..

We can use this thread to post the serial numbers, board dates and revision ids. It can serve as a correlation thread and a sorted order will reveal the possible range(s) to buy/look-out for.

Here's an example of one that is not too bad but not nearly as nice as others.. Have seen them much worse yet than this one.

On the C-11 that I have, Dennis Miller noted that the pads have plated through holes which I found interesting! I think we came to the conclusion it was a later version! I'll look inside for a revision number next time I reconfigure my system! Also of note the Selector switch is somewhat different than the C-1. My conjecture is that these two changes happened concurrently, but I am not sure!

BillD (4Krow) Silver C1 (which should be chronologically earlier than the Anthracite C1 or Black C11).

I've spent the last few years scanning ebay and CL for the serial number of the last C-1 produced. So far that honor goes to member Zeprok123's "red knob" C-1 s/n 26431. I don't know the date it was manufactured, however, gold98gtp has s/n 26341 which is dated 6/15/89.

The oldest unit I have pictures for is xavionics C-1 s/n 24831 dated 11/11/88. The main PCB is revision E:

FYI: Zeprok's C-1 s/n 26431 is now owned by member robvon who fixed it (tone pot issues) and replaced the red knob.
I just PM'd him a request for manufacture date and board revision info and asked him to post photos here.

My early C-11 (s/n 00003) is not dated but we know the new model was released in the fall of 1989.

Apparently the main circuit board was revised though I don't see what has changed. It's listed as revision 1.
