I have always had a special place in my heart for Radio Shack.  I think the name gets a bad rap.  Today Radio Shack has been reduce to a Cell Phone Outlet Store.  But IMHO they produced some quality "affordable" equipment in the 70's & 80's.  Most notable was some of their speakers.   I have had several over the years.  They also had some great Receivers.

I have been running Optimus 5B speakers now for a few years with the original crossovers.  I knew I should have rebuilt the crossovers years ago.  Time is my nemesis.  Time is also no friend to crossovers.

There is a very well documented crossover upgrade for this speaker on AudioKarma:  Realistic Nova 8b Rebuild & Crossover Re-Design

I finally bit the bullet and spent the $110 on the parts to rebuild the crossovers.  All I can say is: "I wish I had done this two years ago".  Hands down, this has made the most significant change in my system over everything else so far.  I was listening to DEAD speakers.

Everyone likes pictures.  So "Dom" here you go:

BTW:  Posting pictures from Google's Picasa Web Albums is very easy.  You can also use "Google Docs" for PDF files.  Both are free online storage.

Nice work too. I like the use of the copper plating - great idea.

Real nice work Dennis! Is that your "New" basement? On a side note I see where Radio Shack is having some serious financial problems, and personally I think if they would just go back to their roots,-decent equipment at good prices and lots of DIY parts they could turn it around.

Nice work Dennis, where did you get your component parts from?  Which caps did you use? and did you go by the specs on the coil windings or did you make them to different specs than the originals?  Great work BTW

Thanks.  It is actually blank copper PCB cut to size then held to the 1/4" plywood with epoxy.
