About This Sound Room

CarverFest is an annual get together of fellow Carver Sunfire and Phase Linear Audiophiles. CarverFest began in 2007 by Tom Trietz & James Sauter, and has been held every year since, in the Great Smokey Mountains of NC. There were 14 attendees that first year including Tom, James, Ray Campbell, Dave Sauter, Gary Gore and his son, Pam Klevenger, Skip Foley and Tim Hall, Mark Lucas. Help identifying the other four would be appreciated. We hope to be able to add a picture of some of the first group soon.
  1. What's new in this room
  2. I have made that change
  3. @sea were Greg and Jenny were in Treehouse A? I would sign up for Treehouse A instead of Treehouse C, if so. It's just a tad easier to move gear in and out of Treehouse A.
  4. Rob, Thank you for your comments. We would love to see you back this Fall. Ed
  5. My wife and I attended in 2020 and had a great time with everyone. We also enjoyed going to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We drove through parts of the famous “Tail of the dragon”. It’s a beautiful place to go and meet like minded people. Hopefully someday we can make it back there again and spend time with the wonderful people we met.
  6. I have spoken to many of last year attendees, and most are coming back to the same cabins. I am sorry to say that Greg and Jenny will not make it and have asked that their Treehouse Cabin be released.
  7. Hi Glenn, Welcome to the Carverfest Sound Room. I see you are a long-time member of the forum. We would love to have you join us at CF this year. I hope that some other past and regular attenders will jump in with their impressions and descriptions of CF. It is an event like no other I know of. In fact, the POLK people tried to copy it with their own Polk Fest a few years back but it did not catch on. It is very laid back time with very little structure. Take a look at the information online concerning Watershed Resort (Watershed Resort | Stonewood Cabins). This a collection of cabins that are within walking distance of each other and in a private area. There are very few structured events other than gatherings for fellowship and evening meals several of the nights. Different cabins will host the entire group. Not every cabin hosts and it is purely voluntary. During the days people wonder from cabin to cabin listening to tunes and the systems that many bring. My wife and I have been going for 11 of the 18 years and I am proud to say that I have made many lifelong friends. The vent runs officially for two weeks. Some stay longer and some just for a weekend. Others, PLEASE add your thoughts. Ed
  8. Is there some general description of the event somewhere?

  12. This guy......this guy....... There are 3 people in the foreground. Mark pops up like, "Where's Waldo"? Slacker.... He has some of the BEST taste in music. "Mark" my words... Tom
  13. Hello, Chris. We always discuss his creations. Bob is no stranger to discussing anything and everything when it comes to audio. Bob was doing fine until about day three, when he was quarantined due to apparently contracting COVID. He is getting older (obviously) as time marches on and while he was moving slowly, he's still up and about when he can be. Peggy is taking great care of him and his needs. He had an "incident" before flying out, so he is wearing an arm sling. He went to go get out of his vehicle at home (his driveway is on a slope), and got off balance. When he went to go grab the car, his hand slipped, so he kept going down the driveway trying to regain his balance and gravity ended up getting the better of him. He landed on the ground toward the end of the driveway and hit pretty hard, parallel to the ground. He was in good spirits (as always) and he's still full of spunk, when it comes to talking shop about audio. I'm not quite sure if he will be able to make it to another CF. I know full well that his mind says, "YES" but his body is telling him another message. We can always hope, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Tom
  14. This looked like a good time. How is Bob doing? Did he discuss any of his creations?
  15. Some of the photos I took while I was there...so those who could not make it can live vicariously through the start of the event. Tom
  16. Hey, all. Tom here. I made it home safe and sound (the ladies wanted to know....the men could have cared less). Thanks everyone for such a great time!!! It was nice to see the gang again and listen to some great tunes. Tom
  17. Yes. Glad they are coming.
  18. Reached out to Peggy via text this morning on the same text thread we had started last year about Bob possibly staying at our cabin in 2023...she responded quickly saying they are indeed coming. WOW! This is indeed thrilling news for the next Carverfest. I also asked Peggy if Bob would be able to sign the Vacuum Tube Reference preamp way back from his CARVER days... When she asked if I would bring a marker I said "I'll bring the marker if you bring the Bob!" Can't wait to get this puppy signed.
  19. Hi Everyone, I heard from Peggy, Bob Carver's wife, yesterday. I am delighted to report that she and Bob are still set to attend!! Ed
  20. Excellent - Glad you are coming!!!! If Treehouse A was open that is great. Just be aware that unless all four Treehouses are occupied by CF people, music must be kept to a low volume.
  21. Ed, I just booked for 3 nights Th-Sunday, 9/12-15th. Looks like Treehouse A was open on those days, so I took that since parking is closer to the door, and I'm gonna bring a RAM285 and a big pair of speakers with me. (Let me know if that's ok.... I'll be glad to switch it back to Treehouse C like last year.... it's just that it has a long stone walkway to navigate.) Not sure yet if it's just me or if my wife Beth will also be with me, like last year.
  22. The scheduled events so far are: Sunday Evening Sept 8 - Dinner at cabin 8. We have again invited The Stonewood staff. We are planning a little different menu this year. Saturday Evening Sept 14 - For the fifth year Stonewood will host us all for an evening of good food and music at The Yard. Please reply with other events if you would like to organize one or host one.

  23. Good Morning All, It is almost exactly one month to the official start of CF2024. Due to various circumstances, we have a few cabin openings, Cabins 2, 6, 10 and Treehouse C are not rented. These have been recently released back to Stonewood to rent to the general public. If anyone has a last-minute interest in attending, you should act quickly. Here is the current slate as I know it. People are arriving at various times. Cabin 1 Doug Cabin 7 Jerry and Niki Cabin 8 Ed, Randi, Eric and Lori Ann Cabin 9 Martin and Charlie Cabin 11 Kirk, Darlene, Russ and Pat TH A Greg and Jenny TH B Bob and Carol TH D Steve Lofts Don, Terri, Tammy, Bob Carver, and Peggy We are so pleased that Bob is still slated to attend. Last I heard Ray and his family were at attend for several days but are staying somewhere off-site. Unless something changes (and I hope it does) long time attenders RobertR, Harry, Carolee and Mark will not be able to attend. We will certainly miss them. Cabin will host a meal for all including The Stonewood staff on Sunday Evening, Sept 8. The menu will be a little different this year. Stonewood will host us, for the fifth year in a row, on Saturday evening, Sept 14. Look forward to seeing all of you soon, Ed
  24. Sadly RobertR has decided that he will not attend this year. This makes Cabin 2 available. This is a 2 bedroom cabin that is very nice and affordable. The full 14 day stay with our discounts is $2200 and a 7 day stay is about $1450. This is a link to the Cabin 2 details....Watershed 02 | Bryson City, NC | Stonewood Cabins
