Build and repair amplifiers (notice I didn't day design) for almost 6 years now, which started with designing and building speakers about 15 years ago.

I have a C-4000 and C-1 that need service and upgrades. I contacted Nelion and they were happy until I mentioned a transformer change from 120V to 240V. Is there anyone in the UK that would like to do this work. Looking to start September after hollibobs.

I'm Jason and i got bit by the vintage audio bug spring of 2025 when i watched SkyLabs audio's YT vid 'We Used To Love Them! What Changed?'

I ended up with what was advertised as an mxr130 but it turned out to be the 150 and all it needed was the trim cap and the display glued back to the faceplate.

So i got a hold of the circuits and concepts cap kit, performance regulator, and 1 replacement knob to do a good service to it.

After all that i'm here wondering about a few hot components and already finding answers, very grateful forums like this with the info we need still exist!

I am a YT content creator and you'll likely see at least 3 mxr units gone through and vids posted... eventually!

The 150 and a hopefully easy fix 130, but also a 2000 that blows fuses on power up or at least that was the ebay description!

I have always been interested in electronics.  I did take a circuits class a long time ago but I would need a major refresher.  I would like to see if I could find out what is wrong with the CD player.  I have searched the internet but am unable to locate a pdf download of the service manual for this specific model.  Does anyone have any advice on where to start or additional resources to use?

Here is a brief overview of my system:

Sources include a Outlaw Audio 990 preamp, Oppo DVD/CD player, and a Denon turntable

Output side gets complicated:  Linkwitz designed 3 way active crossover feeding two Adcom GFA 545 and one Carver M500 amps into self built, but Linkwitz designed "Phoenix" loudspeakers.  Velodyne sub (modified) powered by an Oppo monoblock amp, then an Adcom GFA 7000 5 channel amp powering my center/surrounds.

I recently reconditioned my M500 amp with all new caps and other related parts and she is sounding fantastic.  I would like to pick up an older Carver Sonic Holography generator to add into my mains at some point.  I will add photos once I have that privelage.

I am currently tinkering with the CT-7 ass the power switch intermittently does not seem to work, and i currently have the CT-17 as the display is quite dim. the CT-17 is a nightmare to disassemble, but again, i don't mind the challenge or learning experience. i have been reading about the typical issues with these units display problems and will continue to chase this down.

I purchased my CT-17 with AV-64 new in the 80s. After sitting in its box for a few decades, a lot of moving for a while, I pulled it out and the tuner display would not light nor would any of the buttons work. There is intermittent function when holding remote buttons down. Based on other sites I replaced all power supply caps and checked for bad solder joints. These had no effect. I found that if I unground the circuit board with the tuner, the tuner functions works. Not sure what this means. Wondering if anyone has run across this before? Electronics are not my strong suite.

I am Kurt, and I have a MXR-150, and a SD/A-450.  I bought them both new, but they have been on a shelf for 22 years.  Dusting them off now.  They both work great, except I need a belt for the CD player.  I drive a speaker set of Altec-Lansings from the mid 60's.

I am considering having the Receiver re-capped.  There appears to be 2 people doing this, can anyone recommend one over the other?

Also, do you know where I can find a replacement for the A81G131 Loading Belt.

I am new to Carver. My father passed away a few years ago, and my mom a few weeks ago. So my wife and I have moved into my inherited family home where my father had a Carver HR-742 stereo receiver that was still in the house. Since the movers dropped my Kenwood stereo receiver, I've just hooked up the carver to my office computer sound system, where it is currently driving a pair of JBL Control 1x bookshelf speakers. These little speakers would probably benefit from a sub, and I happen to have one handy, but I don't see a subwoofer output on the back of the HR-742. Can anyone suggest a good way to hook up the sub?

The right channel seems to be quite noisy too, so I'm interested in hearing thoughts on what might be causing that and how to fix it.

Hello new friends, joining today after pulling my old CT-6 and TFM-15 from the garage, great to be enjoying again after about 30 years. Needed some refurb work which was done by George Meyer here in L.A. but sounds great and happy. Have new speakers arriving today and excited. I have been out of this world for about 30 years so a lot of new things to learn (I’m behind on speakers) but glad to see the old too, and happy the carver is still great. I was 18 when I last used this system, so budget was Energy RC-10 which are toast now. So I tried sonus faber lumina II amator, not enough. I now have Revival Audio Atalante 3 coming today. Excited to try those. 

I do like the technological breakthrough of the wiim ultra which lets me bring the entire world of music to my carver, very different from 30 years ago. 

Of course, the button cap on the ct-6 is missing. Wondering if anything developed after some of the old threads I found. Someone at my office has 3D printing capabilities and could print for me if we had the file. I’d be happy to make a few extra.

I am a retired electronics design engineer who designed mostly digital and embedded microprocessor designs with a smattering of some analog circuits along the way. 

The Carver PM-1.5 is quite the challenge.   I bought it many years ago and it worked well until the large power supply capacitors failed.  I replaced them and it worked for quite a while longer and failed some years ago. I removed the dual power supply caps and found they had failed which is at least part of the problem.  Now I am looking at sourcing replacements for them ( I have seen the EBAY replacement board with 4 caps),  but I will probably make my own. 

Then I will see what else is wrong with it if I am able to .  I appreciate any suggestions along the way.  Especially how I can isolate my digital oscilloscope so I can use it to safely view wave-forms should I get that far. 

I have a Variac specially for this,  but have never had the issue of needing to also  isolate a 'scope to make measurements.  Ways to do that would be greatly appreciated and thanks ahead of time if any one out there has the way. 

I'm a new member to not only the carver site but also was gifted a AV505 at christmas. The 505 is totally awsome, it has one channel not working but the other 4 are great sounding. I'm hoping to locate a service manual to repair the 5th channel and tune the rest of the amp. I would like to thank the carver site for the resources they are providing for the owners of carver equipment. 

My name is Betty and I am new to this site as of 7/10/26. I have a Carver HR-772 Sonic Holography Receiver purchased in 1991 with the original receipt and manual. My configuration is receiver connected to B&W CDM 9NT speakers via Kimber Grey 8PR speaker cable with banana plugs. Speakers and cable purchased in 2001 with original receipt and manual. The sound is impeccable. Receiver does require a check-up. Potentiometer appears to be failing.

Hifi enthusiast since more than 20 years, I'm 40 now, already owned Cinema Grand Signature with Grand Processor 3, and finally back to a 300x2.

Lot of speakers were paired with it, like ESS AMT 1B, ESS transar atd, Soundlab Audiophile 6, Zu Definition mk4 and many more, still own all of this and many more ... Today it drives Dynaudio Consequence, with Gryphon Sonata premp, mainly.

Sources are Day Sequerra FM Reference Panalyzer / Krell DSP / Wadia 6 / Eversolo DMP-A8 / Studer A810 and EMT 950E.

PS Audio P10 & P5 and Clear Image Audio T4 takes care of AC quality and stability.

Even with Cello full system as well, Performance II (2 pairs, 8 boxes 😎 ) and Encore 150, Suite and Palette, this little Sunfire is still surprising ! 

It will last as my forever amp I guess, as my ESS AMT 1B !
