I am new to this site, and I am an avid Carver lover. I have two Carver 1.0t in mono pushing my AR TSW-910 speakers. These speakers love the power from my amps. I also have 2 Carver cubes. One in mono running the center channel and the other in stereo running the surrounds. I'm using a Yamaha receiver as the preamp. I bought all my Carver amps new back in 1988(I think it was 1988 as it has been so long). I'm starting to get a pop when I shut the amps down, so I think it is time to get them serviced. They have been bullet proof since the day I bought them. I'm in the Fond du Lac, WI area if anyone has a good suggestion. If not, I am planning on reaching out to Nelion Audio.

I can’t believe it took me so long to come to this form. I’ve been a big fan of Carver gear a long time. 
 

I am new to the group, but have been a keen Carver/Sunfire owner since the beginning when I lived in Canada.

My current Carver/Sunfire gear includes:

M400a (owned since new)

M400t (x2) (bought used in 2001)

C-1 (owned since new)

SD/A 360 (bought used in 1996)

Carver (KLW Audio, XA-25 electronic crossover) (bought new in 2001)

Theater Grand Processor III (bought used early 2000's)

Theater Grand Processor II (bought used early 2000's)

Theater Grand Processor (bought used early 2000's, not currently working properly, and the service technician gave up)

Cinema Grand

Truesub MkII (x2) (bought one new in 2000, one used in 2005)

Sunfire XT CRM-2 (x4) and CRM-2C (x1)

Previous Carver gear:

C-1 (bought used late 1990's)

TL3100 (bought new)

Carver MXR-130 (x2) (bought used for other family members)

I obviously am a bit of a hoarder, although I did sell off 3 different Nakamichi tape decks after not using them for 28 years. (1000 Tri-tracer, CR-2A, 250), and donated my Altec Lansing 1208 speakers to a friend in need ) 

On a brighter note I picked up a Phase Linear 400 a couple weeks ago and have a bunch of goodies ordered from White Oak Audio.  Excited to get going on that as well.

I have a TL-3200 that i simply love (more then my Emotiva ERC-4). The problem I am seeing now 9after getting the display lights replaced) is that when i play a CD, most of the discs will skip at some point on track 2 and then later in the disc (perhaps track 5, track 8, etc). I suspect it has something to do with the position of the pickup wrt the position on the CD (closest analog i can think of is how a tonearm/cartridge tracks on a vinyl recording). The tech I took it to said 'the laser pickup is shot. And i cant get heads anymore.' I would hate to think I cant play this jewel reliably any longer. I am the original owner and i want to keep it in the system.

Does anyone have any DIY fix suggestions or parts source?

I have massive respect for Bob Carver, his character, impact on the audio industry, and anything that his incredible mind and skilled hands had a part in. I've consumed just about every bit of knowledge and lore I could find online and I came here looking for as much knowledge and wisdom as I can glean from you fine folks. In my hunt for equipment, through meetings on marketplace or messaging sellers, I've learned that some of the most intelligent and kindhearted people are audiophiles, and it's an honor to be a part of the community.

I just acquired a Carver stack (M1.0t - inverting, C-1, and TX-11a) and am looking forward to getting them all up and running, and perhaps modded as well (definitely the BillD mods to the C-1).  I normally hang out over on AK, as I have only had one piece of Carver gear in years past, MX-130 which I was able to bring back to life after reflowing numerous solder joints, but sold it while I was out of work.  I've repaired lots of different brands and types of equipment, though I can't do full testing of things, so I'm ceertainly not a true tech, but I do have good soldering/desoldering equipment, cheap component tester,  several DMMs, and a decent parts inventory.  The M1.0t was listed as non-working, and that's what I just opened up yesterday to see if it was anything obvious.  I suppose I should start a thread over in the Amp section of the forums with the info, so I guess that's all for now for this thread.  Just wanted to say Hi and give a little background of what I may (or may not) be able to handle whilst doing the work.

Just picked up a few Carver pieces and looking forward to scouring the forums to them in tip top shape.

operation.

My audio system consists of:

-C1 pre-amp which I refurbished in 2022 with the BillD mod. Sounds great.

-M1.5t power amp which I re-capped and tuned in 2022.  Sounds great and is my main amplifier.

-PM1.5 power amp which I found at a pawn shop, I re-capped and tuned in 2024. The amp was in decent shape but had an intermittant right channel caused by several cold solder joints.  This is my back up amp to the M1.5t.

-TX 11a tuner. I haven't re-capped as it still operates well and sounds great.

-TL-3300 CD player which I am starting the re-cap process as the left audio channel has intermittant low-level crackling.

-KEF 104/2 speakers which I re-capped the crossovers with capacitors from Falcon Audio in the UK. Replaced the donuts of the woofers as they had deteriated. Cleaned and refreshed the ferrofluid in the tweeters as they had stopped working due to the 36 year old ferrofluid.

-Speaker cables are clones of Nordost Vahalla cables which I built myself In 2023.

-Turntable is an Oracle Alexandria MK III in gloss black with a Sumiko tonearm and Dyna Vector DV-20x2 MC cartridge.  The turntable suspension was rebuilt with OEM components along with a new belt and a new DV cartridge installed in 2023.

-Phono stage is a MOON 110LP which was pre-owned but not abused.

My music is rock, jazz, blues from vinyl and CDs.

I apologize for being so long winded, my background is that of an electronic engineering technologist from nearly 40 years ago.  In my early years while in college, I worked as a bench technician for a TV and Stereo shop. After I graduated from college I worked as an electrician / electronic technologist at a large steel plant.  I left there in '91 to pursue a different career until retirement.

I'll post photos of the audio system once I'm able to.

P.S. I downloaded the service manual for the TL-3300 CD player and noticed the schematic and other pages are missing from the PDF file.  I wonder if any one has noticed this and my have a complete service manual.

I'm old and retired but have always thought Carver had great products! I'm looking to get a preamp and amp. Been looking at the M1.0t amp and notice there's a pre and post version from serial # 4500. The post 4500 serial # has a switch for mono vs stereo that isn't on the pre SN # 4500 units. If connecting 2 speakers (stereo) should the + and - match or are the left and right channels out of phase? If out of phase, should one of the speakers be connected reversed?

I wanted to use my CD player, but the tray failed to open (due to lack of use) So I searched 

for service manuals for what I have and found most of what I needed. Now I just have to dust off my test gear and do some troubleshooting (reminds me of work) then I can finally sit back and listen to my library of music. Thanks for adding my name to this forum now I have a great source for all things Carver. 

This is a fairly inexpensive system overall, the Klipsch being the only things I bought new. The Carver pieces I bought from a local dealer that had closed up shop and was emptying his garage so he could move to Florida,

(I also bought a pristine Sunfire True Sub Mark ll from him for my living room home theater, but it was too much for my high rise apartment, so I sold it.) I found all of the used stuff when I wasn't even looking specifically for it. I was at that local dealer's house buying a used DSLR and he showed me his garage full of stuff.

I'm lucky to be single and have a guest room dedicated to  my stereo setup (and ammunition press), but it is still guest friendly with a futon. I followed Bob Carver's instructions for speaker setup and find the sonic holography impressive.   I'm considering upgrading to AL-lll plus speakers and possibly a Nelion upgrade for my amp. 

I load my own ammo because I shoot NRA Bullseye/Precision Pistol with an 8" Colt Python in a local league.
