  1. I'm a new member from Georgia and just wanted to take a minute to say hello to everyone on the board. I've spent some time lurking before finally deciding to join and hopefully contributing to the discussions here. As for equipment, I'm a little in between components right now. I have a C-11 that was rebuilt by Rolland and a TFM 15CB with some issues with one of the channels. In fact, I will probably be discussing what to do with this amp at some point on this forum. I recently purchased a M1.5t that was also rebuilt by Rolland that I'm hoping will be delivered soon. Until then, I'm using my Pioneer SX 737 receiver to keep things running. My speakers are a set of HPM 100 that have been fully recapped and sound beautiful. My current turntable is the Rega P3 (in white), and I also have a Pioneer tape deck and Marantz CD player, but I can't remember the exact model numbers at the moment. I've also got some lower quality gear that I've loaned out, such as a MCS turntable and a set of HPM 60 speakers. Several years back, a good friend of mine reintroduced me to the joys of quality stereo equipment, vinyl, and most importantly Carver gear, and I have enjoyed it since. I look forward to the discussions and I hope to learn as much as possible along the way.

  6. I would say "generally no" it doesn't really affect the unit sonically. It does mean replacing the volume control with one that isn't quite the same, but I don't believe there is any effect on quality, and if you are not used to a C1 without the new volume control, you would probably never notice anything. I suspect that the reason some may not be inclined towards doing the remote mod, aside from just maintaining originalility, is that it's (a) difficult (b) a hassle and (c) very precise, finicky work that takes some very serious skill and far more patience than an normal human being possesses. Oh, one more thing - it's also a serious Pain in the A$$ to do. I was able to beg one of the great techs, here, (Daddyjt) into doing it for me, and I couldn't be happier, but I do realize what I asked of him, and it wasn't easy work for him, even with his skill level. The precision, reqired, is something I wouldn't try to replicate, but I definitely appreciate what it took, and how welcome the remote is. Please keep in mind, too, that the only thing the remote controls is volume, so it's not going to give you full power/source-selection/etc. That was all I needed/wanted.
