  1. Wow! I can hardly believe they would leave the place in such a sad state. One can only hope it was mostly disco.
  2. Thanks! What great info and shopping tips. Let put it on the site player (even though I enjoyed the Peter Gabriel).
  3. GULP! Sticker shock alert! BTW Kevin, that really is thinking outside the box.
  4. Welcome and congrats on taking the plunge into the shallow gene pool that is O.C.C.D. infested with some of the greatest guys you will find on this planet (myself excluded)! I got hooked on Carver stuff while stationed in Germany in the late 70's (when it was still Phase Linear). My first amp was a Model 200 Series II and it rocked my Infinity Q Jr's!
  5. Welcome home Klh! You must be my brother from another mother as we seem to have much the same taste in gear and music.
  6. Welcome! Great amp to start a Carver obsession with. Nice system and I love those big Maggies!
  7. Welcome! I also have an affinity for a few pieces of tube gear as well as the vintage I.C. analog stuff. I hope you enjoy it here.
  8. Final quote of Socrates: "I drank what?"
  9. Welcome back! Good luck with your equipment search and Sub build.
  10. I hear you Snow! By the time I got to the thread I forgot why I clicked it.
  11. "In the immortal words of Socrates... I drank what?" - Val Kilmer as Chris Knight in the 1985 film Real Genius
  12. IN-deed! Thanks for the great karma offering.
  13. WELCOME! It sounds like you have a really great start on a bad case of O.C.C.D. that I'm sure will be all consuming once you have heard the difference between the unmodified C-4000 you enjoyed and the BillD modified C-1. I believe the C-1 to be a cleaner more musical sounding preamp to start with, but the BillD treatment lowers the noise floor to such a degree you will be astounded. I have also become extremely enamoured with the modified C-1 sound and the significant work of it's engineer (BilldD) as well as the many fine techs here on this site who have learned to duplicate and build upon that genius. I also have a C-4000 in the process of being modified and look forward to hearing the transformation it will surely undergo. I look forward to hearing your review and opinion of the BillD modified C-1. I have said before that adding one to your system is like getting an all new and better sounding set of gear. As our good friend Zumbini would say.: "Enjoy the music!"
  14. This is what it's really all about! The music! What a bunch of fantastic music collections and great stories about how this music came into your lives all together or one piece at a time. Thanks guys!

    Inception

I never did all that well on the spatial orientation tests, so the visuals blew my mind! I agree the plot did get a little thin there. Awesome roof shaking home theater surround film though!
  16. That's Lemmy the Limey Bastard and he's a Phukin' Rock Legend! He should have died from self abuse a decade ago!
  17. Welcome! Great screen name! I'm so happy to see another platter spinner join the ranks. In these days of instant on, it's good to find another old soul who understands the ritual of the LP.
  18. BTW - I have a '04 Lightning that makes right at 550 HP. It has surprised quite a few "fast car" owners over the years... It's a go fast for sure! What have you done to make it a quick stop? I'm not sure if any of this applies to the '04 Lightening , but after I bought my used '02 I began learning more about the truck's brakes and decided to do what some call the heavy duty "Expedition Upgrade". I chose Centric and bought new Posi-Quiet loaded calipers and also Centric hubs (Power-Slot) that had been Cryo-treated and are supposed to last longer. Having always been an overkill kinda guy, I thought why not go with new parts on all four? I got the same new calipers, pads and cryo-treated hubs for the rear too. The Expedition parts are bolt-on perfect fits for the F150, but they are much more hevay-duty (both rotors and calipers). Maybe not the stopping power of a 'Big Brake" mod, but pretty beefy and a very effective upgrade for much less money.
  19. Home renovation, Cool car fixin', Vintage Stereo and now computer stuff. I'm starting to get the feeling that you are quite the renaissance man and a chronic over achiever. Any other cool stuff, projects hobbies or skills we men would admire, but the wives or girlfriends would just not get? Renaissance
  20. A really nice looking project. I still like the spine out set up for now, although my eyes are going too so I may change my mind about that in the near future (when my drugstore magnifiers stop working). I have an idea to repurpose the big square hole in my Oak wall unit that used to hold a 32" tube TV. I want to build a shelf to have two rows of LP's (one above the other) with thin vertical separators every 6 or 8 inches to avoid extreme lean . I relocated the wall unit when I went with the BIG, flat screen LCD. Now the wall unit is shelving my Carver gear and a couple of turntables (one with MM, one with MC carts) so this will work to keep it all together with the LP library. I noticed your doesn't have wheels. Are you planning on adding those or will this be a permanent placement?
  21. Is the VIN a big deal in CT when you build your own kit car ? BTW - I have a '04 Lightning that makes right at 550 HP. It has surprised quite a few "fast car" owners over the years... SA-Weeet!!! A true thoroughbred compared to my old workhorse XLT.
