  1. Small world - I run the full RF7, RC7, RS7 setup in my theater room. I can tell you from personal experience, the M500t is a better pairing for the Klipsch RF than the 1.0t. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll be happy with the 1.0t, but the 500t compliments the Klipschs’ efficiency and brighter sound beautifully.
  2. I remember, in my youth, when my buying decisions were based on stats and specs. It’s sad when there are entire forums dedicated to stats and specs, and no mention of actual listening. I don’t have a dog in this particular fight (I don’t even care for tube amps) - just pointing out that no one is talking about how the amp actually SOUNDS… Oddly, my “awakening” to the less-than relevant nature of specs came in car audio, when I swapped a “200 watt” Jensen amplifier ($150) with the 45 watt Rockford Fosgate Punch 45 ($300). The difference was profound both in sound quality and power. It took quite a bit of convincing from a buddy of mine to shell out the $300 (not a small sum in the late ‘80s) for a measly 45 watt amp. And I’m sure Rockford would have sold many more of these amps (initially at least) if they had marketed them as “200 watt” - but as it played out, the lowly Punch 45 (and 75 & 150) became legendary.
  3. John Wick is also a fun read:-) http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/John_Wick As is Saving private Ryan… http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Saving_Private_Ryan
  4. I’m sure most of you are familiar with IMDB (Internet Movie DataBase). I recently came across a similar site for firearms in movies, IMFDB (Internet Movie Firearms Database). It’s a fun site - enter any movie, and it catalogues every gun/weapon used in the film, often with interesting historical information about the individual weapons. Try Die Hard or Lethal Weapon for a feel for how it works… Enjoy! http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Main_Page
  5. I have 2 episodes to go - and I going to be disappointed?
  6. While I cancelled my Netflix subscription a while back, I still use my son’s from time to time (part of his rent agreement, lol). anyway, I’m about half way through Archive 81, and so far it’s OUTSTANDING. I had almost forgotten that it was possible to make a “horror” movie/show that doesn’t rely on cheap jump-scares and gore. Archive 81 is smart, Well cast and very well filmed. It is immensely creepy with a compelling plot that makes you REALLY want to know what happens next… now I’m just hoping they don’t screw it up in the 2nd half. Highly recommend (so far…) https://youtu.be/ibxKEqxARkE
  7. I have the DVDA of this one, and yes - it’s outstanding!
  8. I’m about as far from a fan of “grunge” as one can get. However, I have developed a taste for “unplugged” versions of various grunge bands (see my notes on Godsmack - The Other Side HERE ). The one that grabbed my attention lately is Alice In Chains Unplugged. The track “Would” in particular has awesome bass and superb vocal presentation. The whole disc is recorded very well, and the “unplugged” renditions of the songs are quite listenable.
  9. I’ve wanted to start this thread for a while now, so here goes. This thread is about one thing, and one thing only - Stunning recordings. Any format, any genre. You don’t even have to like the music itself - it’s all about the RECORDING quality. We all know several of the standards - Dire Straits Brothers In Arms SACD, Donald Fagen Nightfly SACD, Fleetwood Mac Rumors DVDA, etc. I’ve come across a few new ones lately too. Please consider sharing your new finds, as well as your “old guard”. Katie Melua, Piece By Piece off the Katie Melua Collection CD. This track has incredible space and imaging right out of the gate. The detail in her vocal presentation is on the level of many Alison Krauss recordings (That’s very high praise). The bass is extremely deep, but without a hint of bloat or boom. The actual lyrics of the song are even touching and deep. The CD is readily available on line for cheap, and I highly recommend acquiring it. https://www.amazon.com/Katie-Melua-Collection-Incl-Bonus/dp/B001B4JVKE/ref=sr_1_15?crid=3H9ZG5QGS9JTE&keywords=katie+melua&qid=1644770023&s=music&sprefix=Katie+me%2Cpopular%2C144&sr=1-15
  10. I’ve wanted to do this for a while now - post a song that you’ve heard before, but for whatever reason, a recent listening has really impressed you. These tracks are worth a second look (listen)… To kick it off, I recently acquired an SACD version of Blood, Sweat and Tears. I’ve always loved this group, as they are about as close as I stray to Jazz, lol. anyway, the track “You Make Me So Very Happy” is splendid. The various percussion instruments, the brass (!) and the bass are superb. If you haven’t heard this one in a while, give it a whirl - the SACD is pretty reasonable - there’s on on eBay right now for $26 BIN… https://www.ebay.com/itm/185177027232?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=185177027232&targetid=1264870804984&device=m&mktype=&googleloc=1026990&poi=&campaignid=14859008593&mkgroupid=130497710760&rlsatarget=pla-1264870804984&abcId=9300678&merchantid=6296724&gclid=Cj0KCQiA2NaNBhDvARIsAEw55hjd5saty2EkGaTZH09v01cAWFrawGXdyIOAIgZZ3ETddue4vqLLakAaAk7GEALw_wcB
  11. Skrillex - Fu@k That. Skip to about the 1:25 mark (ridiculous long intro). The bass on this track is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Also Deadmau5 - Ghosts and Stuff, Nero remix:
  12. My son found this SACD buried at the local used music store the other day. As a somewhat passive Elton fan, I must admit that I’ve never even heard of the album, even though I own a couple of his SACDs. I’ve always found the quality of his recordings passable, but far from reference - until this one. As soon as it started playing, I knew we were on to something special. It has that “air” about it - you know what I’m talking about, the sound just explodes into the room, the speakers disappear, and you’re THERE... As soon as we finished playing it, I went on eBay and ordered my own copy - it’s easily gettable, my sealed new copy only costing $35. Specifically, tracks 3 and 6 are to die for. The whole album kinda has the feel of a really good friend pulling out a REALLY good whiskey that you’ve never heard when you visit. He says “I know you have never heard of this, but trust me - it’s the good stuff”.
  13. Welcome aboard, Bill. I’m glad to have another vinyl non-enthusiast around here, lol - strictly SACD, DVDA and FLAC for me (it’s as much about my laziness as it is sound quality!)
  14. Me - “Siri - Tell me the formula for nitrogen oxide” Siri - “NO”
  15. I am not familiar with that receiver model #, but if it has relays, they are very likely a potential distortion cause. Relay failures usually manifest at lower volumes, and sometimes completely resolve when volume is increased, only to resurface next time the unit is powered on. oh, and welcome aboard! Glad you found us!
  16. Yea, I know... At the time it was released Cuomo was the darling of the left, and I toyed with reading it then. However, I think it will be an intriguing read now, with all the new revelations unfolding. I seriously wonder if portions of this book may be used against him in future prosecutions....?
  17. Thought I would give this one a whirl, in light of current events...
  18. What I did not understand until I had more than a sip of the wine, is that the question of what to do with the “left-overs” is moot - there are no left-overs😉
  19. I didn’t ask for ice, but I did ask if the Justin Isosceles should be refrigerated 🤫
  20. I had never heard of them until I started hanging with my in-laws 30 years ago. I enjoy the “story” format of many of their songs - and there’s a good dose of humor in many of them too. Good stuff.
  21. That’s a bit far back for me, but I’d have to go with The Kingston Trio and their self-titled release.
  22. I did not realize you moved on from the 20.7... I would LOVE to hear a pair of those some day - I’ve never even SEEN a pair in person... Those SVS cylindrical subs are damn near unbeatable for the performance/cost ratio. And they are easy to hide in a room....
  23. I wanna see a pic of those two ladies in your setup - you know, the Maggies 😎. Some of the coolest looking speakers I’ve ever seen...
