  1. I wonder if the C-1000 is really a true Carver product or if it was a modified unit based on an existing or partnered design. The reason I say this is because the front and back panel layout of the C-1000 are very similar to the Rotel RSX - 965 DD/DTS receiver (75 watts/channel) that came out around the same time. Google some pictures of that Rotel receiver and you will see what i mean.
  2. The C-1000 has only composite and S-video so it is useless for video switching. (not all that important to me or many others). I owned a used C-1000 in 2004 and it spent 6 months in the repair shop. It was horribly problematic. The sound was nothing special. Granted it could have been a bad unit all around. It has pre-outs for all channels but you can't use it as a 5 channel amp on its own. They look great but frankly if something goes wrong with it I think it will be very difficult to get it repaired. There are simpler and better options. My 5 cents. (we don't have pennies anymore in this country so minimum is a nickel)
  3. It's pretty difficult to repair an amplifier without any electronics knowledge. If it's blowing fuses there could be some major faults that you can't find just by looking at it. I'd say take it to a repair shop if you want it working.
  4. Welcome. Sounds like a good system you have. Is your C-1 a stock unit? If so, there are several good upgrades to improve the sound quality.
  5. My Sunfire Ultimate Receiver is quite sensitive to any DC on the main line. DC from appliances such as my humidifier. Even a few millivolts causes the Sunfire transformer to buzz.
  6. Welcome. I would think Nelion Audio could also work on your Luxman amp. Ask him. What speakers do you have?
  7. Just posting this so that I don't have to see longtimecarver freak's face staring at me every time I log in.
  8. My point was that depending on how the IEC is orientated, it could change how a person wired up the live and neutral. ie, if you said "pin closest to the fuse is live" and you did 99 that way and then some flunky installed the IEC upside down you may wire the neutral to the fuse without thinking. I did a quick search for pics on the web and they all look to have the earth pin at the bottom so my observation is probably crackpot anyway. I agree that if there is no earth connection, one would probably source two pin connectors for factory product. Lunchtime!
  9. Something else that they brought up at ASR was the fact that the Neutral side was fused rather than the live side. Interestingly, I noticed this; This is the reviewed unit from the ASR website. Notice that the earth pin in the picture is at the bottom. If you go to the Bob Carver website and look at the picture of the Crimson 275 back panel, you will see that the IEC orientation is opposite, with the earth pin at the top! https://www.bobcarvercorp.com/copy-of-crimson-raven This orientation may affect how the wires are soldered to the fuse and switch. One would have to open up the units to confirm how it is soldered. Maybe some units have the live fused and some may have the neutral fused. EDIT: the unit on the bob carver website is probably actually a picture drawing and not an actual unit so maybe some folks who actually have a unit could say which way the IEC is installed.
  10. And if the Crimson 275 had been built with a TWO prong IEC, would they still be complaining that it doesn't have a chassis ground?

    Get Back

I watched the whole thing twice. Damn, I think I missed the John Lennon pocket incident again. I was concerned that Disney (TM) would realize that they weren't making anywhere near enough profit off of the Get Back special and pull it in favor of a pay-per-view.

    Get Back

Watched part 3 last night. Very good except for some reason Peter Jackson thought we wanted to see Linda's daughter fooling around the studio and mostly just getting in the way for a full 20 minutes at the beginning. A few shots would have been sufficient. The rooftop performance was excellent for sound and pic quality. When it came right down to it, the boys played and sang wonderfully. I liked how the Apple front end staff delayed the 14 year old looking London bobby from gaining access to the roof too soon.
