    I was at a friends house yesterday, and he had an EAT phono preamp with a Hana cartridge.  And a setup to do A-B comparison between the EAT and a Parasound SS phono-pre.  Dollar for dollar, the tube EAT phono pre was muddy, lacked clarity compared to the crispness heard from the Parasound SS phono-pre.  We were listening to the new SRV Mofi, freshly opened, and the difference in clarity was in-your-face.

     

    I know it's not the "exact" comparison.  My anecdotal data points collected in my quest to find a tube phono-preamp that can mellow the delivery, while maintaining sharp crisp note played from bass to mids says that most tube phono-preamps can't do what the SS are able to do.  Maybe Bob can design a tube phono-preamp and show the world it can be done?
