  1. Ghrols Sound City? man that's too bad it does not sound good.. very surprising! I wonder what good albums have come out of his studio with that old huge board.
  2. Ok.,, now I have Polk Audio envy disease... what more will this site give me? Welcome aboard and as others have stated.... you will fit right in hear with the rest of us wayward souls ...
  3. Welcome to the Carver Site V.... very nice system!
  4. Tending a website can be a major headache and thankless job. Thanks for keeping this site alive Greg!
  5. Welcome Ron... good stuff around here.. enjoy!
  6. Wow.. never heard of El-Casette... just googled it.. Looks like an interesting format.....
  7. that's a good deck... some of the Sony's have loading (disc loading) issues and other physical switch problems. I don't think that one has any of those issues.
  8. I was going to watch that show but missed it.. sure it will be on again. Joe's music is really not my cup o tea but, he is amazing... a true living icon. Surfing is a favorite among his fans and I do have a copy as well.
  9. So for the 390t CD player, I took it apart and removed all the old grease and replaced. The sidewinder gear for the turntable was in fine shape but the noise it makes still remains as noted by another OP after he did the same clean up some time ago. I guess that I will just live with it. I really like the sound with the tube buffer. Onto the TFM-35... replaced all the caps and a couple toasty resistors. Sounds very good.. it had a bit of noise in the top end but that has all but vanished. Very happy with the outcome. CT-3... it started powering off/on so I went through it...just re-flowed the boards and it seems to be working fine now. Oh... last but not least... I will be receiving a new/used C1 today. What is the definition of addiction? How did I get here?
  10. Yep... gonna try graphite with MOLYBDENUM as suggested in another posting on the issue.. hopefully that helps... It's weird though.. sometimes the CD roulette is quite in operation.. other times it sounds like shifting gears without using a clutch.. ugly sound
  11. I should have dug a bit deeper on the carousel issue... found the info on taking it apart via this site. Sounds like these players can just be noisy when rotating.
  12. Thanks all for the warm reception. The monitor 10's sound very good with this system and I am looking forward to adding my ADS's. Now I understand what the Carver sound (Holography) is like and have enjoyed a few hours (many) listening to this system. One issue that I have is with the 390t cd player. The screw drive for the turntable/wheel that holds the CDs can get noisy. I was going to remove the turntable to take a look but there is a round cap in the center that covers the access to the screw. Anyone ever remove that cap? Its on pretty tight and even a dental pic cannot get in to leverage it up. The service manual does show this round cap as a separate part.. here is a pic of the top and bottom.. Thanks all!
  13. Hi all.. newbie here... finally after 30 some years I have obtained a Carver system. I always was interested in Carver from the days of reviewing pages of the thick Crutchfield catalogs.. remember them? So here is my new system. Just need to work on the CD players... seems to have to warm up a bit to read discs properly and needs a couple new belts... This has a very interesting sound and runs quite well with my Polk monitor 10's. I look forward to being here.
