How about another Zack update ?

I'm sure you've heard some good stuff since our last foray into the world of Zack at MIT.

I have to say - I am still super impressed with him !!! Congrats on a great job raising him !!!

Thanks for asking about Zack Brian. I wasn't ignoring you. I just didn't see your post until now.

What's new? Well the big news is that ZACK HAS A STEADY GIRLFRIEND! Her name is Melissa Hom and he met her at his frat's fall mixer about a year ago. She's a junior at Northeastern in Boston (a few miles and across the river from MIT).

Zack spent Thanksgiving with Melissa's family (they live in New Jersey) and she joined us in VA for a few days up to and including New Years Eve. They took a train back to Boston early Saturday morning so Zack can take a 3 week Math for Computer Science class. He's also planning to work some extra hours until formal classes start February 1. (He makes close to $20/hour staffing the MIT help desk.)

Academically he seems to be getting his groove back as he finished his 3rd semester with 4 A's and a B. (1st semester was pass/fail - he passed; 2nd semester he had an A, 3 B's and a C.)

And he's still playing drums for the MIT Jazz Ensemble. He intends to graduate with a minor in music.

What about the SDA project... How's that working?

This was Zack's 1st trip home since I re-covered the grills, repaired the surrounds and replaced the blown tweeters.
He noticed the sonic and cosmetic improvements and gave the Polks a good workout during his New Year's Eve party.
Time was short so we decided to postpone the crossover upgrade and Larry's Rings install until his next visit.

He recently took a cooking class and promised to make me something special when he's home for Christmas.

Zack had a very busy holiday. A week at home, a few days in Austin and Pittsburgh, back to VA for a New Year's party, Boston for 2 days, then off to Europe (London, Prague, Amsterdam, Cambridge) with 4 of his fratmates. Here are a few photos:

Opportunities are made. Zack planned the Euro trip himself and paid for it with money from his summer job.

Yes, there's a strong family resemblance, but I was only that lean after starving myself to wrestle 127 lb in high school. face20.gif

Very true about opportunities.. Just awesome to see him grow.. Hats off to his parents.. Great results..

This school year Zack has been working on robotics projects with his frat-mate Luke. They've been sharing a basic 35 watt soldering iron so I ordered him a nice 75 watt solder station for Christmas. Unfortunately it was back-ordered for 6-8 weeks so I picked up a set of titanium/ceramic fry pans so he had some packages to open with the family. (He's been cooking a lot lately and it seemed like a good match for the fancy chef's knives he bought himself.)

Instead of cancelling the solder station order I had it sent directly to Boston. It finally arrived early February and he got to use it last week.
