If you are going to be a techie guy, it's hard to argue with MIT credentials !!!

True dat. I would also note that the MIT admissions office, and every company he has interviewed with, has been equally impressed that Zack is an Eagle Scout.

Any news on the study idea at Cambridge ?

At this point Zack is enrolled in (and has full funding for) MIT's MS - Electrical Engineering & Computer Science work/study program. He has already completed 2 courses and starts the work portion on Monday.

His application for the $85K Jack Kent Cooke Foundation International Doctoral Studies Scholorship has been processed and he qualified academically (4.7 GPA or higher). Frankly it's a long shot as there are dozens of equally qualified applicants, but he is no stranger to beating the odds. He should hear more around the end of the year.

Today Zack is starting work at Cadence Design Systems in Chelmsford, Mass. The company is based out of San Jose with 21 locations worldwide, 7,200 employees and annual sales approaching $2B.

Zack is not exactly sure what he will be doing work-wise but he does know that he has to learn a new programming language by the end of the week. While he's there they are supposed to provide time, resources and consuling to assist him in developing his Masters thesis. His contract runs through mid December.

Here's some info from their website:

Zack just signed a 1 year lease on an apartment in Cambridge with his fratmate Luke and BFF Michael. They move in September 1.

Typical of the Boston area, it's small (about 600 ft2), expensive ($2,400/mo) and street parking is by permit only and hard to come by (Zack has my Saab until he completes his work/study program at Cadence Design Systems in Chelmsford around the end of the year). On the plus side, each of them will have their own room, and it's within walking distance of MIT (about the same distance away as the SAE house).
