An interview with my brother Matt (graphic artist/illustrator)

Recommended Posts

Recently my brother Matt (Matt Zumbo Illustration) did an interview for radio station WMSE 91.7 MHz in which he discussed his 31 years producing artwork for Koss billboards, his transition to digital art, and much more. (WMSE is a non-commercial radio station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, playing a wide-ranging eclectic music format run by volunteer DJ's. The station is part of the Milwaukee School of Engineering.) To listen to the interview click THIS LINK. Matt's interview starts at 1:32:30 and runs for ~23 minutes.

This is Matt's Illustration on the rear cover of the recent coffee table book Mona Lisa Reimagined:

I agree with Rod, Matt's work is incredible.
I was thinking the same thing as Rod, "What No Tramp Stamp" ?!?!

Even at a glimpse, I am impressed. There is a certain gift that some are given to inspire us.

Thanks gents. I'll pass on your compliments.

Some of his early renditions of "backside" included a tramp stamp. I prefer this version. Sometimes less is more...

Is it just me or is there a baby's face integrated in the butterfly, ala da Vinci ?

Good eye Curtis. Yes, it's an homage to the master.

Here's a photo I took of one of Matt's Koss billboards you probably haven't seen before. It's a favorite of mine because the model is the daughter of friends we've known since grammar school.

Really enjoyed that interview Z.

I could certainly relate to his discussion on buying an album with great artwork--Santana, Iron Maiden, etc. which swayed your purchase at times.

And my first pair of quality headphones back in the early 80's were Koss. A real affinity there.

Such talent Z. Thanks again for sharing.
