Dogs - Post Em' If You Got Em'

Recommended Posts

I love dogs. I really enjoy meeting other peoples' dogs. I enjoy training and working with dogs. Dogs are good for my soul.

If you have a loyal friend (or two or three...) post a few pics for everyone to see.

This is Rosa She's a rescue from an animal shelter, though I'm the one that was rescued. She chose me, and I've been thankful for that for over 10 years now. Rosa was an owner surrender because her previous humans were moving into a senior living center, and they couldn't have a dog larger than 30 lbs. She came with her AKC papers and full medical history.

This is Biscuit.  She's been gone now a few years. My son grew up hunting behind her. She was a Champion Pointing Yellow Lab.  Could hold a covey of quail in a briar for 5 minutes.  But preferred working a field, flushing and fetching pheasant.

Well, since I started this thread...

This is Hellie. I had to put her down the day before Thanksgiving. 😭 She was my rescue girl. Blind, filthy teeth, heartworms, nails never clipped, 30 lbs under weight, both ears yeast infected. She had cancer and I had tumors removed from her legs twice. She was part English Mastiff, part Anatolian Shepherd per a guess by my vet. For a mistreated dog she was unbelievably loving. Great personality, very smart - I potty trained her in 9 days. She taught me much about patience and learning to understand a dog. She was terrified of thunderstorms and loud noises but together we figured out how to make them almost a non-event. I had almost 5 years with her and I miss her terribly...

And this is Magnum. I got him as a puppy 7 years ago. He is my constant companion. AWESOMENESS defined - he is so smart and intuitive it is uncanny. I often laugh to myself when I hear people talking about their "big" dogs because my sense of large has been re-defined by this guy. 204 lbs of devotion. His personality is as large as his body too !!  🙂

Here's him holding a regular bottled water bottle - he wants to trade it for a treat.

Here he is with my 8 year old niece.

This is Shadow, my buddy and he's a rescue dog from the animal shelter.  I love playing frisbee with him in the park.  He's awesome at catching all sorts of things in his mouth and bringing them back to me.  My wife brought him home two days before my prostate surgery and he has been the best dog I've ever known.  That was some 9 years ago now.

This is where he goes on my Friday's off.  He misses the family when they leave for the day and this is usually where I find him.

And this little character is Lulu our new Hound Dog puppy, she's a rescue dog from the animal shelter too.  My daughter took the pic below and texted it to me.

And here she is takin' it easy:

This is Isis.  Probably not too hard to figure out the breed.  Female, ~65 lbs., and best described as a dog with no sense of humor.  She's been great with our two girls.  She just turned 8 back in October, so probably only a couple more years with her, but we're going to enjoy them as best we can.

She's beautiful.

You never know. Rosa is 11, and she's slowed down very little.

That's excellent to hear.  We'd like to keep her around as long as possible...we spent the first 3 years of that dog's life training her pretty much every single day until we got it through her thick skull that we were in charge.  I've heard that Dobermans will test you every single day, and she's definitely held to that.  She also has a cat buddy...not best buddies, but they tolerate each other.

In my case, it's the other way around. Rosa still looks at me like, "You big dummy. Are you ever going to get it?"

We lost our Chocolate Lab Tank on 27 Aug 2018, bone cancer. he was a rescue we had 5 years with him.

About 6 weeks later while walking in the dog park with my 15 year old Yorkshire Terrier,

a lady who I had seen many times in the dog park when i was there with Tank, came over to me

and asked me why she had not seen him around. Once I had told her, she asked me if I would be interested in an other dog.

Due to the real cold Canadian winter  minus 30C I had decided to wait till spring before i started looking.

She showed me a picture of Stella a 10 month plus American Bull dog,  that was a Thursday eve.

I picked up Stella on Saturday 27 Oct 2018. We changed her name to Ella.  She is a handful.

The following weekend we had some guest over for supper,  Ella decided to help with the cleaning up 😀

This is Mitzy, our Boston Terrier. As she's matured she is much more brindle than black as shown in this older pic. We got her as a pup and she's now 3.5 yo. Although much smaller than the majority of the dogs posted above, she was a handful for the first 2.5-3 years of her life.
