Some of you may already know me and my association with Phase Linear over the years. I shared a website with Dean Nissen (the last factory service manager at Phase Linear's Lynnwood, Washington location).

I worked with Dean for 25+ years restoring Phase Linear gear.

Here is a link to an archived copy of “THE OFFICIAL PHASE LINEAR (LYNNWOOD) HOMEPAGE” I shared with Dean.

NOTE: Some of the links no longer work.

By the way, I moved to northeast several years ago from the Seattle area.

I hope to get back to the Seattle area within the next few months. I spent (13) of my (25) years working for Boeing in Everett metrology (calibration) labs writing calibration procedures.  The last 10 years at Boeing, I handled the calibration procedure/software release process (after the merger with McDonnell Douglas) for all the Boeing calibration laboratories throughout the U.S.A. There are approx. 350+ technicians and 1.2 million pieces of test equipment (in Boeing's asset management system).  The procedure index started out with approximately 20,000 procedures. We consolidated it down to approx. 10,000 procedures. Additionally, we had approximately 2,000 software documents. Previous to working for Boeing, I worked for Northwest Calibration Systems and Pacific Testing Labs. Before that, I also owned a recording studio, did some live sound and a little radio work.......

Hello Ed,

I work at Boeing in Everett. I know a lot of people that work with software at Boeing.

I read the software PDS docs every day!!!

I tracked a lot of Boeing documents to establish requirements for our calibration procedures while I worked at Boeing. There was no one else like me in metrology who did that. They included tool drawings, engineering drawings, facilities documents, process specs, etc. Utilizing PSDS, Redars, Edcoms, Documentum, etc. I also tracked national and international standards via IHS (via an automatic notification system) . I proposed to management that we build out the calibration procedure index to have tie-ins not only to the software documents but to these other documents as well. This was to ensure that the calibration technicians always working to the latest revisions. When I left there were some procedures with out-of-date Boeing authoritative requirements (reference material) in them. I am not sure how far they got with it as I was working on it just before I retired. No one else had the same passion for the job as I did. I wish I was still at Boeing, as I now have a list of industry standards related to audio that I could have obtained for free like you can now.

Ed knows more about Bob Carver than even Bob knows! He is the source on Phase Linear and Carver history.

Wayne,

Well that isn't quite true. I do know a lot about Bob Carver and Phase Linear. However, it is primarily throughout his earlier years and at Phase Linear until he left in the spring of 1978. I have very little knowledge of his later years at Carver, Sunfire, etc.

D. Ladely knows more about Bob than anybody and has known him since they first met at the University of Washington Physics department in 1962. Dave and Bob probably still see each other almost on a daily basis.

Bob's life story would make a fascinating book.

Bob's mom was Tina Carver a "B" grade film star. She also did some tv shows late in her career. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0142588/

If my memory serves me correct, D. Ladely helped create a family tree either on ancestry dot com or genealogybank dot com under the name Tina J. Carver. In it one can find some interesting details about Bob you will not find anywhere else.

Welcome aboard Ed!

David joined Bob at CarverFest several years ago and wrote an article about the event. David is an interesting character and a pretty knowledgeable guy.

Welcome.jpg

Definitely a huge welcome to you!  Sorry I don't have a welcome mat in more of a Phase Linear logo to offer up.  I know you are no stranger to many here, but for those of us who may not know you so well, I look forward to any wonderful stories of P.L. days and other things throughout the history of all the companies (and your endeavours outside, as well)!

Welcome to the forum Ed, glad you you decided to join.

I look forward to hearing your knowledge on the Phase Linear line (and all things Carver) and of course Bob C. and the other notables you worked with.
