Favourite Music Documentaries!

Recommended Posts

The passing of Hal Blaine "rest in peace" reminded me of the great documentary "The Wrecking Crew". Does anyone else have any favourites?

I also really enjoyed "Muscle Shoals" and "Sound City"

The Tom Petty documentary (2007) is very good .... however I realized after 2 hours that they were chronologically only 1/2 way through?

Yup ... it's 4 hours long!

Kansas documentary very good as well.

I'd put Standing In The Shadows Of Motown and Twenty Feet From Stardom on that list

This is on my Amazon wish list.  I just have not pulled the trigger yet.

It was on Showtime last month, and it was very good. There were lots of interviews with other musicians, Clapton, Rod Stewart, several others.

The Clapton rockumentary Life In 12 Bars is good too.

Showtime seems to do a music documentary quite often. I've seen Hendrix, Rush, Beck, & Clapton documentaries so far, and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch.

From the WayBack Machine, I liked "The Song Remains The Same" (Led Zeppelin) and "Mrs Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" (Hermans Hermits) although they both were more heavy on the music than documentary.....

I had completely forgotten about the Clapton doc, which is great. That reminded me of another guitar doc .. It Might Get Loud, featuring Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack white .. highly recommended.
