the reason i ask is cause i can fit alot more music on dvd than cd. just wondered about sound quality between the two. i use windows media center to burn music to dvd and use itunes for cd

It will depend on what kind of DVD player you've got, some DVD players got two lasers, one for DVD and one for CD, some players also got dedicated DAC for stereo and another ones for DVD.

However, if you use digital output from your DVD player to an external DAC it wont make any difference whether it is a DVD or CD.

As was said earlier, it depends on the original source.  If you're burning MP3s and have a player that can decode them, you can burn them as data on a DVD and get a whole lot on there.  Must burners don't allow you to burn CD format onto DVDs, and I don't have any software that will burn to DVD-A format.  Ideally, I'd like to burn DVD-As at 24-bit 96kHz for quality, but haven't the software.
