Thanks for the birthday congrats.

Heres a pic of the MP-301MK3 with the 6550 tubes in.
You can see the KT120 on the 401 beside it.
I want to screw around with some smaller speaker builds, maybe some
smaller OB projects and I still want to build a Frugal horn, thats the reason
I wanted another smaller tube amp. Hopefully one of the speaker projects will work for a system
upstairs.
Spent a good part of the morning listening to the 301. It doesnt have the detail
of the 401....but the tubes are just starting to burn in...I still really like this little amp a lot.
Just realized I dont have a pic of the room on this thread, so I'll throw an old one in for now.

So.....interesting turn of events.
The buddy of mine that bought the Super V kit,
thats the one thats 2 generations better than my V1s......if you recall I hate him......
has made me a proposition.

Seems he likes my V1s so much, and he knows I covet the Super V
that hes offered a trade......my built 4 yr old speakers, for his Super V kit.
Were gonna hammer a trade agreement out on Saturday......hopefully.
Hes bringing his Van, so I think its a go.

That means.....if its a go.....that I'll be left with only a kit.
I'm gonna have to DIY cabinets.....damn, I hate doing that....eusa_dance.gif
But its gonna take a while, I have to find a place thats warm....tough up here in winter...
to do this build.
I have a cool concept that looks nothing like my current speakers,
I'll post sketches later.

The Super V has exactly the same bottom end as I have now.
2 Open baffle 12" servo subs driven by a Rythmik servo amp.
Its the P Audio co-ax on top thats different.
The driver on mine is the BM12 CXA, it has a 1" compression driver and looks like this:

This is the new driver, theBM12 CX38, it has a 4" voice coil and 2" compression driver
it weighs in at 37lbs:

This driver doesnt arrive looking like this though, the back cap gets milled out and this turns the
driver into a true dipole. My current driver is a kind of hybrid dipole/bipole, mine has a tweeter built in to the
back of it. You can see it here:

The new driver will look like this:

I'm really excited about this deal, Im crossing my fingers that the deal goes through.
The Super V is suppose to be quite a step up, that a feat cause my V1s are some of the best
I've heard. Like I said, its gonna take me a while to build these, I'm gonna have to pull
these out in the meantime:

Did I mention that I really like this friend of mine?......emwink.gif

Keep us posted, Perry. I'd love to follow your build experience in as close to real time as possible.

I think I'm going to take my basement office(it pretty empty and a fair size)and seal it off with poly.
This could make a nice work area over the winter. My wife and daughter are leaving for 3 wks to Paris,
so this would be the ideal time to "do the deed" without her knowing, by the time she gets home it will be
too late to turn back.....I'm sure I'll get one of these when she gets back....1215.gif

So if I build at home, I'll post real time photos. This build will be way more involved than any other
I've attempted, gonna play with bending sheets of MDF and sending out to paint at the local body shop.

Nice! Are you going to make some speakers specifically for that tube amp?

Yep.....got something in mind, but my mind wanders so it might change....:)

And to think we knew ya when all you had was that cruddy JC Penny boom box and you showed up here asking if we knew how to get a stuck 8 track tape out of it.
