  1. My first interaction with Bob Carver was through an auction site listing for one of his prototype-design vacuum tube amps for sale. At first I couldn't believe that it was really him, sending some of his novel (and historic!) audio creations off into the wild before the rest of mankind could even buy it off the shelf. But it was indeed true, it was the man. It seemed bold and exciting, traits that I would soon learn Bob has in great supply. The auction was accompanied by one of the best question and answer pages and DEEP-DIVES into the very nature of sound, psycho-acoustics and how distortions come into the real world...and it blew my mind. Someone from this site contacted me recently about that very auction and I learned through him that he had captured these incredible Q &A sessions for all posterity (thank you weitrhino!). It was amazing how much information was conveyed in those Q&A/auctions and Bob never, ever refused a single question and even supplied schematics for several of his designs that were currently in development. I'm still in touch with Bob on occasion but wonder how many members have had the opportunity of interacting with him as well. Bob even gave me pointers on some tube mono-amps that I was constructing at the time and told me that my grounding method needed some improvements...and when I made the mods the 20 kHz oscillations I was experiencing went completely away. Ok enough for now. I was told by weitrhino that the manual for the prototype amp may be added to this site if there is any member interest in it. I'm just happy to be here.

  3. Hello straylight, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. While it's not a requirement, a good place to start is by making an introductory post in The Welcome Shop. Once you've advanced to Novice, consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio gear. If you have a pdf file of your manual, it will be a welcome addition to the Manuals area. @dennismiller55 is in charge of that. In the meantime, kick your shoes off, turn up the music, and welcome aboard.

  4. Providing information about the site is a very good idea. It gives everyone a chance to get acquainted more quickly and to know who to contact. Thanks! I am a newbie to this site but not to Bob Caver. I have a multi-page use and operation manual received from Bob for a product I did not see listed that may be of interest to other members. Looking forward to sharing stories and swapping information about Bob's many bold designs. Many have already proved to be important to the history and advancement of Audio.

  5. This album arrived this morning, and once again, Mobile Fidelity has knocked it out of the park. It is dead quiet between tracks, and it takes me back to the first time I heard didn't hear a BillD C-1 preamp. It's simply phenomenal.

  7. Great story, and it fits right in with everything I've heard of Bob Carver. Quite a few here have had face-to-face with Mr. Carver. He has attended the CarverFest several times, and there have been Carver build projects for a few of them. One was the Carver 275 tube amp a couple of years ago. The fest is in North Carolina during September, and there's a sound room on this site about the Fest. Welcome aboard, and as soon as you get to Novice status (6 thumbs up or that rocks), you'll have the permissions to upload some pics of your gear. We would all love to see them.
