  1. Welcome Cornfarmer! I've fixed several of these. The trouble spots for drop-outs: #1 by far is the output relays. You know it's them if you crank it up and it starts playing fine. Change them no matter what. Next is the TAPE MONITOR switch. You can DeoxIt from underneath. There is a ribbon cable that operates the switch, which is located on the Input Board, remove the bottom cover for easy access. Lastly, Volume and Balance potentiometers, if DeoxIt doesn't fix them, you might need to replace them, they do go bad. As for your tuner issue, there is a variable capacitor on the Tuner "sandwich"

  3. Hi everybody, I am looking for some help/advice. We have a Carver MX-130 that needs help (probably deferred maintenance). My wife had it for a long time before I entered the picture (hand-me-down from audiophile FIL), and over the years it's developed dropouts on mostly the left channel that sounds like dirty pots/connectors...I was always able to engage a few knobs/switches/buttons and after a few jiggles I can mostly get the channels back to acting normal. This eventually got worse of course. A while back I popped it open assuming I could spray Deoxit here and there an

  7. I use Shell Rotella 15W-40, whatever T version is the diesel CK-4 rating. That has high amounts of ZDDP anti-wear additive. You can't use thin oil in older engines. I don't bother using synthetic since I change every 3k miles. Engine generates soot which causes wear. Synthetic oil doesn't make soot go away. Fresh oil makes soot go away. Synthetic only doesn't lose viscosity at high miles. 5 weight oil is for subzero temps. It has no viscosity. Using synthetic to maintain viscosity but starting with 5 weight shows lack of thinking.

  26. I tend to go 7500 miles. Honda thinking is that you only change the filter every other oil change as the fine particles make the filter better at collecting even finer particles, which only works if you don't have an issue of significant wear. No, I change it every time, too. But it makes you think...

  27. According to my cousin that worked in Milford proving grounds, GM facility, engine testing and oil department, Full Synthetic oil doesn't need to be changed all the time. He changes the filter every 5000 miles and tops it off and runs all year or 25000 miles similar to the Amsoil products.
