  1. Hi all, Should have done this first... Way back in the 80's I was going to be a recording engineer, went to school for that. Ended up in post production for movies, now work at Dolby Laboratories (but not the cool part). I've already gotten some fantastic support on my newly-acquired gear, a 4000T and a pair of M1.0t amps. The extent of my audio stuff, for years has been an aging 5.1 home theater system. I have a couple decent headphones, a pair of Austrian AKG K701s and a pair of Sennheiser HD540 Reference II I've had forever. I decided a good headphone amp was needed - and so it began. A Schiit Valhalla II headphone amp, then a Modius DAC, then a Music Hall 25.3 tube DAC (craigslist, couldn't resist). Then I decided I didn't have a cd player anymore and found a really nice Marantz CD67-SE on NextDoor. Seller also had a pair of Roksan Caspian power amps and a Rotel preamp. A deal was made. Then decided my life was incomplete without some SACDs so I found a mint Denon DVD-5910 on eBay. Local guy was selling his Denon AVR-3808Ci and a pair of M1.0t's. (I wanted an AVR with Preamp outs so I could have both a home theater system and stereo system using the same front speakers. Another deal was made. Then a pair of Acoustic Research AR308HOs showed up for $75. Couldn't say no to that! (these are fantastic, by the way, though I did manage to scatter one of the midranges - replacement on its way from PartsExpress.) Most recently a pair of NHT SuperTwos popped up. Then the 4000T. Can't Stop Buying Gear Currently all this stuff is set up in my basement, waiting to figure out how the main system will pan out. Thanks to everyone on this board, y'all are a friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful bunch!

  2. Wow. It's like I just read my own life story. We need to get together sometime. I also studied recording engineering in the 80s (razor blade editing FTW!). I dabbled over the years since - mostly in live sound - but mostly worked as a singer while holding various day jobs. My 308HOs, however, were purchased new. They've been doing mains duty in my HT ever since, but I have to admit they never sounded great with my Denon HT amp. I tested a Pioneer SX780 I was fixing up with them once and they sounded great. I've since upgraded my HT amp to a Marantz and biamped them and they're much improved.

  3. Reposting this to the main thread since I hijacked someone else's welcome thread. Sorry guys. Hello everyone. Thanks for the add. Bought my first Carver piece 30 years ago. Still have it. It is a 6250 receiver with a intermittent issue with speaker output (smack it on the side and it works for a while). Looking forward to exploring the site and tapping into the brain trust here. Thanks

  6. Welcome aboard! Don't worry about not having done an intro, first - you're in good company, there. I kept thinking, while reading your intro, that I should warn you of the perils of OCCD, but by the end of it, it was obvious it was far far far too late. So welcome to the wonderful world of OCCD as well, and enjoy the ride - there IS no escape, ever - not that you would ever want to if there was! Sounds like you have a very nice system, with vast amounts of potential, and more than a few "how did you steal THAT" bargains. :-) Once you have enough posts under your belt, put up some pictures for us. In the mean time, join in, and enjoy the music!

  8. Hello mark33442, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. While I'm certainly no tech, if jarring the receiver works for a while, you might look for a loose connection somewhere. Maybe one of the techs will chime in with better suggestions. Once you get to Novice status, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio gear. In the meantime, kick your shoes off, turn up the music, and welcome aboard.

  11. Welcome @mark33442. Glad you found us. Lots to learn here to get your receiver back into better-than-new condition, and surprise your ears!. (moderators, is it possible to carve out Mark's post and follow-on threads to it's own Welcome Topic/thread? Some welcomer's may miss it here tagged on the end of Pat's intro...)
