  2. I apologize in advance to all you Doors fans out there. The biggest axxhole in the music business that I ever met was Ray Manzarek. I did a shoot at his house probably 25 years ago. He was on camera to talk about, of course, Jim Morrison. There was a technical glitch that was my fault which would have caused us to restart the interview and re-do about 10 mins of filming. Instead of being cool about it, he ran upstairs like a petulant child and refused to be interviewed any more. On the other side of the spectrum Taylor Swift has hugged me every time I've seen her (for a total o

  11. Now that I have my speakers set to where I hear the stereo image, I was listening to Chuck Loeb’s “All there is” and engaged the SH. I was hearing a difference that sounded good, wider sound stage and instruments more separated. I have never had my speakers setup correctly until recently, so I have never heard SH function “correctly”. My speakers are not setup anywhere near the correct positions per the manual. But I am in the sweet spot when listening to music.

  13. Fourplay, Energy is a great album for Sonic Holography. Guitar front and center, bass off to stage left, piano at stage right, and drums center back. Very well done. Listening on the main 2 channel rig.

  14. Sophie Kay, Turbulent Blues was released on November 27, 2020. "Sophie Kay recorded this album over several years. From 2017 to 2020 she laid down on Protools with the precious help of her favorite sound engineer Denis Goltser, songs hidden in the back of a drawer written decades ago (Welcome Sweet Little Angel, a half English and French song lyrics)) years ago (The low down way you do, a feminist song) and more recently songs composed in reaction to the news reported by the media, a news that is always more mortifying. Are we so insignificant to deserve this, could appear as a con

  15. Thanks Brian - yes, they do have a narrow (albeit deep) footprint, hence a high WAF (If that is a consideration). The bass response out of the single sealed 10" drivers is mind boggling. Granted, the abundance of power from the Silver 9t amps certainly helps, but seriously - They easily best the Infinitys (2 x 12") and even the Legacys (3 x 12") in bass response. As for the rest of the room decor, I had zero input - and quite honestly, I didn't care! I mean hell, I have a theater room (Which I DID decorate to MY standards) AND a 2ch listening area, and all is cost me

  17. I ordered this album a while back, after it was recommended to me as a great source for test tracks. I had played it a few times, and really enjoyed it in my truck. A few days ago, I threw a small system together (Oppo 105, C1 w/Gundry, McCormack DNA 225, and NHT 2.5i speakers, with a Velodyne DD12) to test a C1 I just finished modding for a member (BillD and Gundry). That is when my jaw hit the floor... The track Draw Your Swords absolutely BLEW ME AWAY. I do not do much listening with SH, but when I do, the Gundry mod is a must - but THIS track was unlike anything I have ever

  18. Now if THAT isn't an excuse for the whole site to celebrate, I don't know what is?! Congrats, my friend, live it up!!!! BTW, what's the right form of older-er, intolerant-er, or openionated-er? Ornery-er works, at least. Or do we just jump to -est, instead?!?!?!

  20. No need to apologize. I think there was something wrong with the lot of them. The writer/investigator Dave McGowan found their story very interesting; the band materialized from nothing, fronted by a bloke who, despite having no musical training, happened to have quite the library of songs already written, all arranged by a film student who had little keyboard experience. Reading Mr. McGowan's perspective on all that went on in and around the Laurel Canyon crowd was quite interesting. I was an enormous fan of the Doors in my day, but the luster has worn off. If their story is true, we'r

  21. The Sokratis Votskos Quartet, Sketching the Unknown was released on November 14, 2019. "Much of Sokratis Votskos’s music has been defined by his desire to use it as a means of exploring his own past and his own heritage while intertwining it with contemporary styles and compositions seeking to carve his own new path as a result." 23. Agreed, but there were certain times his nasal warbling was appropriate. For instance, he performed on the soundtrack for that peak-80s movie, Band of the Hand. The opening titles were underwritten by his track Hell Town Man, a great rambling blues wreck that kicked Link Wray up a notch, albeit slightly more polished. And of course who could forget Lay Lady Lay? For decades I'd thought that was Charlie Rich or someone of that crowd. Imagine my surprise on one fateful day, when I heard that track on the radio and stuck around long enough to hear the DJ say, "And that was the great Bob Dylan..."

  24. At the top of my list is Kanye West. He has consistently behaved badly for the last decade. His interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech was a total embarrassment. (Anyone who can make someone as obnoxious as Swift look like a victim must truly be an over the top asshole)

  26. Dave Koz, A New Day was released on October 9, 2020. "Dave Koz’s ‘A New Day’ is the saxophonist’s first solo album of original material since ‘Hello Tomorrow’ in 2010. This legend of Smooth Jazz delivers an album that will not disappoint his legion of fans and ranks, alongside the classic ‘The Dance’ from 1999, as his finest work." 27. Price $399 plus actual shipping (and paypal fees, if any) This amplifier has been recently serviced and checked (voltages verified, volume controls and switches cleaned) and is in excellent working condition. We have an original Carver shipping box, too. All functions operate as they should and it sounds great, being tested through both a pair of Altec Lansing model 19 speakers as well as a pair of Magnepan model MG2.5R speakers. It sounds beautiful driving either! Both meters, lights and volume controls operate as they should and without any noise or static in the volume control

  29. Nice work, Mark! Love the decor! Neuveau retro speaker is SO in style right now! I keep forgetting that the NHT's have those side firing woofers, and looking at the relatively small size compared to the rest, yet knowing they put out awesome sound.

  31. Listened closely to "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis yesterday, and for the opening song "So What", this is what I heard, in location: 1=Paul Chambers, double bass 2=Jimmy Cobb, drums 3=cymbals sounded brighter and closer 4=Bill Evans, piano 5=Miles Davis, trumpet 6=John Coltrane, tenor 7=Cannonball Adderley, alto

  32. I had no trouble playing them from the link, Phil. When you download them, are you getting a normal size file, or is it really small compared to most? If it's normal size, then the download is likely okay, but something is amiss in the playback buffering. If it's small, something is interrupting your download/playback somehow. Good luck!

  33. Does anyone else have problems playing back the tracks linked above? When I try and playback most of the tracks, they cut off after 10 - 15 seconds. I've tried re-downloading and also just playing them back from the link, but so far no joy. Am I doing something wrong?

  36. I've only listened to the CD on the Electrostatics - maybe they intensify her affectation. To me it sounds like she's trying to mispronounce words like my kids do when they're being silly. Also take my opinion with a grain of salt - I find Alison Krause darn near unlistenable.

  37. New artists are tricky. I heard Kacey Musgraves on SNL and wasn't impressed. I heard her on WXPN in the car and I realized she really had a great voice. I think she was really nervous on SNL. Give her latest album, Golden Hour a listen...

  38. If I had the time, I’d dig out another set of speakers and see if I could experience what you are hearing. Maybe it’s the NHT’s...? I like them a lot, but I’ve never found them to be wildly out of the norm. I can say with certainty though that I’m pretty sure I would not like her voice on the Klipsch pair. Or maybe my hearing is just shot.

  40. Because the Holographic Image works by phase cancellation of the unwanted second sound arrivals, accurate speaker position is required. You must make sure that the left speaker is the same distance away from you as the right speaker. For the best Holographic image, the left speaker should be set exactly the same distance and angle away from your listening position as the right speaker. It is recommended that you use a tape measure to set them up to be the same distance, within about half an inch tolerance. Actually I think the manual says within 1/4" . Yes move your speakers even i
