  1. Hello, I have been lurking around The Carver Site for years, downloading schematics and such - so I need to introduce myself to the group. I'm an old video editor, so I spent years working in TV stations around engineers and technicians. I thought they were magicians. My electronics knowledge is very limited, but I have some idea of what I don't know. I built all the Radio Shack kits as a kid, so I know the basics. I own a fair amount of test gear: a few scopes, tone generators, etc... and I have a modest understanding of their use. I am really lost on data sheets and the like. I'm not an engineer - but I have annoyed them my entire professional career. My system is modest; two M200t amps, C-2 preamp, TX-2 Tuner, and Altec Lansing Model Nines. I have done Mundorfs and surrounds on the Altecs and sent a couple mids out (I have collected 8) for a recone. I'm glad so many folks are having fun with their LPs, but they drove me nuts and I was happy to see CDs come along. I currently do Tidal >> Audirvana >> Schiit Modi 3 >> C-2 Preamp. No CD, no turntable. I have some questions that I know I can get answers to here and probably nowhere else. I'm re-capping my M200t's and C-2 preamp. I also have a couple TFM-6CBs that need some love - they were driving garage systems for a couple decades. I'm looking for some advice and insight into the op-amp mods for the Carver preamps. That looks like fun. Also, I have been throwing Nichicon UFG caps in everywhere, but I'm curious if people have any suggestions for a better series or brand of capacitors. Any other enhancements that might help these pieces sound better would be appreciated. I enjoy the project at least as much as the enhanced performance. As they sit, these M200's are better than anything I have ever owned - by far. My goal is to improve the rig that I have as much as possible and have fun at it. Bill Newton

  5. I was always out of place in a record store. Way too many choices. By the time I warped the record on the way home, smoked around it and tried to clean it, it was unlistenable. I was so glad to see CDs come along. Then along came streaming, so I can try every record in the store. Everyone's different, but the digital world is perfect for me. Thanks for the welcome!

  6. Welcome Bill! Glad you decided to step out from the shadows and join in. You definitely have more electronics savvy than I do, so I'll defer to those who know, here on your questions. You certainly have equipment that has plenty of potential to keep sounding great far far into the future. For now, join in the fun, and remember to enjoy the music!

  13. Kid's told us we should see this movie..., "Always Be My Maybe" it has some good belly laughs in it. Having lived in SF/Bay area for a couple decades, lots of things / experiences were familiar. (After grinding 20 stumps out of the ground yesterday, I needed something completely mindless..., and this fit the bill with a good Cabernet.) In particular, I thought the song at the end, during the credits, "I Punched Keanu Reeves" was clever. And, well, shows another side of Keanu, made me think of @Daddyjt . Yes, it's rap..., sorry..., but fun. To fully understand, you have to see the whole movie..., yes, Keanu is in the movie.
