  1. Hello all, I’m an electronics/software engineer and an old Carver fan since the late 70’s early 80’s. I currently own a TFM-42 and a small TFM-15 which I’ve upgraded, serviced and recapped. The TFM-42 is driving a pair of JBL 4425’s in my home Studio and the TFM-15 is currently driving a pair of JBL L65’s and sometimes a pair of JBL L100’s in the living room. I’ve gone through a lot of equipment over the past 40 years but got hung up on the Carver/JBL sound in my environment and my music (rock, blues, metal and so on), which mainly comes out of this era. I’ve also done a lot of restoration of vintage JBL speakers. I also do development in the area of tube-amps and tube-preamps/overdrives for guitar, amongst other electronics in the area of laser-drivers and embedded control systems. Beyond that I’m a guitarist and have been playing for the better part of a half century now…wow, time flies! So that’s my short-form introduction, glad to be here..

  4. Thanks to all for the warm welcome, pretty active site here, looking forward to the interaction. Well I did a total tear-down of the amp, recapped it, redid the wiring, replaced the speaker terminals and RCA jacks with higher quality ones, replace the mains filter with a better one and implemented diverse revisions mentioned in the service manual. There’s really no such thing as a favorite tube for me in the realm of guitar-amps, since the tonal colorations that come with various tube-types is the toolbox for creating the sound/tone one needs for the job at hand (rock, metal, blues, jazz) and so on. Some of the typical used are the 6L6, EL34, EL84, KT88 in the power-amp section, amongst others. Carverfest 275? Is that the Carver Crimson 275? Wouldn’t mind having that one in the inventory. Unfortunately the last tube amp (Hi-Fi) I had was “The Fisher” KX-100 back in the eighties Well I got a Peavey Wolfgang Standard, an Ibanez rga321f spb prestige, a Epiphone Elitist 61SG, a custom build Warmoth/USACG Strat-style, a customized Epi Les Paul standard, an Aria Pro II ZZ Deluxe and a Yamaha AES 620

  8. Lol, yes. I thought I tricked you when I said implied that I was a musician. Really jonesing to play again soon. I'm the drummer and lead singer for a house band at a local pub. We were playing 3 weekends on and 2 off. Haven't been able to play in public since Covid. Oh well at least Real Estate is crazy here right now (I sell houses as well)

  15. Welcome! Glad you found us! What upgrades have you made to the TFM-42? That is in my favorite family of amps! I, too am a tube amp tinkerer, more HiFi than guitar. What's your favorite output tube?

  19. Welcome !! We're really glad you joined us - we can always use another techie on the site. In college my buddy had a set of JBLs. I don't remember the model but they sounded great. Hurry up and get a few posts under your belt and then throw some pictures up. It's sad but when you get old audio picture porn is the best of all !!!
