  1. Hello everyone! I'm a new owner of a recently refurbished MXR2000 receiver, it's going to be the center piece of my "vintage" system, I'm currently in a conundrum of which speakers I should buy/build. I was thinking of a pair of CSS Audio Criton 2TDX speakers, but there are so many local vintage audio collectors in southeast Michigan that I don't really have to choose... But I'm leaning heavily towards the Ohm Walsh 2 or 4, paired with a 10" JBL subwoofer.

  2. Welcome @Freaky_fridayto the Carversite. It’s a great place to be and I am sure there are plenty of people that will lead you into any rabbit hole you want to enter. I have gone through the speaker dilemma myself as well as others. There is a topic named that, Speaker dilemma. Enjoy your Receiver and I’ll leave it at that.

  4. Welcome Mr Friday. Some good advice I received was to buy, listen, sell and repeat until you find a speaker you just can't bring yourself to sell. If you live in an area with lots of used hifi gear you can really become an expert on what speakers you and your system enjoy... you could even change your name to the CraigslistENER... cause you'll be listening to all the speakers you bought on craigsli... sorry, it's been a dad joke kinda week.

  6. Hello Freaky_friday, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help. Finding the right speakers for your ears and synergy with your system(s) can be challenging, fun, and hopefully rewarding. Now that you've reached Novice status, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio gear. In the meantime, kick your shoes off, turn up the music, and welcome aboard.

  7. Wow, the Sunfire sure is a beast! I replaced 13 of the 470uF filters on both boards and two 47uF 200V in the regulating section. It works well but has a slight hum that increases slightly with more gain. I still want to know if any more tips on getting this cured?

  8. There are quite a few individual collectors and the increasing number of estate sales will likely be a good chance for me to pick up a few gems. I'm keeping my eyes out for a reasonable pair of Magnepans, or their latest speaker the LRS is affordable.

  9. My musical journey started in the early 80s, listening to Pink Floyd, Rush, Boston, Supertramp, ELO, and Alan Parsons. I got into school band and enjoyed playing various wind instruments, but the first album I truly discovered "my sound" was The Prodigy - Fat of the Land. I made a couple custom speaker boxes for my car, and have been playing around with electronic music and the occasional DJ set. Lately, after a long detour and moving to the Detroit area, my neighbor introduced me to High Res audio, which has opened up a whole new world of audio exploration for me. Thanks Duane, I hope your new band "Belling The Tiger" does great things. Jack White's new album just came out, and I can't believe how excited I was to try new music again. Wow. I enjoy classical, big band jazz, and rock, but my heart belongs to Techno. Current test tracks: Rabbit in the Moon, "Equinox"; and Boris Brejcha "Space Diver".

  10. Welcome @Freaky_friday. Glad you found us. Your speaker journey sounds familiar! Try them all 😉 I didn't know your neck of the woods had that much vintage gear in the market..., Here in Chicago-land, for my tastes, it is a vintage gear desert..., mostly junk and undesirables in the listings. Welcome, and let us know what speakers you try, experience, and prefer..., on your audio journey (it's not a destination!).

  11. Thanks for the information. Your points ,make a lot of sense as there are few repair shops in Canada and of course I would rather have a 490t although they are hard to come by. I also didn't know that the 450 isn't worth that much. My wife liked the calendar song selection feature on the player, combined with the unified CT17 remote. It all worked well but now you have given me food for thought!

  14. Once more I have to correct the error - there is no such thing as an MXR2000. You have an MXR-180 model number), commonly called The Receiver 2000. BTW, there is no 'MXR 900', either. Receiver 900, or MXR-90. RR
