  2. Ok, here the update: I replaced the PS capacitors the unit no longer was working. With the help from Les Wolff of Circuits and Concepts I was able to find that the HV at D623 &D627 were high 131v AC and 87v AC. Did some more TS and was to the point that the more I worked on it the worse it was getting. This little unit Carver 130 is not just something that I got off E-bay I have an emotional connection to it. Les was good enough to take a look at it. He found that there was a shorted capacitor on the preamp board and it was dragging the PS down. He also found a bad capacitor on the noise reduction board bad along with the tuner board that was intermittent. After all repairs Les completed the refurbishing and upgrades. I just want to point out that Les was great to work with, in my view he just loves Carvers and wants to keep them running. What I can say about my 38 year old Carver 130 is that with my DIY CSS speakers the sound is just stunning.

  4. We were fortunate to see Pat Martino at Blues Alley (it is down an alley) in the Georgetown district of District of Columbia. A remarkable musician, two times over. If one were to witness Rodin, Michelangelo, da Vinci , Michelangelo or Botticelli, etc., spinning out images before ones eyes, that would be close to his artistry. Coming to appreciate (belatedly) dawns all of a sudden & then more so, gradually, later.

  5. Envy Of None - this is a new project including Alex Lifeson (of Rush) as a member. If you are looking for a Rush album, this is not it. If you are looking for something fantastic in the Rock / Prog-ish realm, it's fantastic. I'd heard one sample song before getting the album, and was somewhat uncertain about it. It turns out that was by FAR the weakest piece on the album. This one is going to live in my CD player and car for the next while. Easily the best new music I've come across in quite a while. BTW, if anyone thinks Alex is no longer on his game, you'd be extremely wrong. Amazing musicianship from all members of the group, and incredible sound - very well, and properly produced - just watch out for your subs!!!

  6. "By electrifying his double reed instrument and incorporating elements of bebop, fusion, Indian, ambient and rock-fueled grunge, the Bay Area bassoonist pushes the envelope on what his notoriously unwieldy instrument can do..." Link (released in 2008)
