  1. Hi everyone who reads this, greetings from the center of Europe - Poland. My name is Łukasz and I have been walking around this world since 97' so relatively recently, the only Carver product I have at home is the Car Audio Carver M-4120 amplifier, I must admit that in the future I would like to rebuild it because it is in poor visual condition, but technically it is efficient. Carver is not the only amplifier I keep at home, unfortunately I got sick with collecting about two years ago and I have about 20 other amplifiers from the 80'-00' era and still growing. I realize that 90% of the people here are people who deal with Home Audio, but I hope that we will get along somehow. Best regards

  2. I bumped into your site this evening after having an M1.0t throw a curveball at my 60 years of experience with power switches. (The contacts open to turn the amp on!) I know, you already know I had my own shop for 8 years in New Haven, '72-'80, Factory service for Sherwood, HK, Nikko, Onkyo, Fender, Gibson, Moog, Infinity, Hitachi basically anything sold in Southern Ct. Then tech at Tech Hi-Fi, Service Manager-Head Tech at Absolute Audio (4 stores), Sounds Alive (7 stores) fixed VCRs for a couple years then 20 years of PCs, Phew! Retired now, part time back to fixing the same stuff I was factory service for in the '70s and '80s at the local record store. I even took in 2 pieces with my old store's stickers on them, I gave 'em a 3 month warranty on the work, I guess 40+ years means I did OK. I remember being Carver service at Tech Hi-Fi but they weren't selling Cubes, no magnetics, or if they did, nobody broke one. If I can't figure this M1.0t out in a day or 2 I'll be back, well heck, I'll be back either way. Thanks for letting me in Kevin G

  4. Howdy all! Just joined up! I’ve been into home audio since high school when I bought an Onkyo TX 4500 MK II. Still have it! now my collection consists of well over 100 pairs of speakers, (some not so big) and lots of electronics. Most importantly, I have two Receiver 900’s, an HR-752, a single M-400a and three M-400t’s! Will definitely have some questions!! Thanks!

  5. Now working on a MXR130 with no power, just Carver lights up, after about 10 seconds after turning on the power transformer will make a pulsing noise. There was no shorts found in the amp or power supply ckts. I did check C203 on the turner board which I had in the previous units were shorted. Not sure where to go from here and need to estimate to the customer.

  6. Well until I broke a button, that is... So here's my story: I live in Southern Maine now. Back in 1988 I purchased an MXR150 receiver when I lived in Mansfield Mass from a department store called Lechmere. It came with the walnut veneer wood sideboards which I thought was pretty good looking. Then about 15 years ago, as an amateur woodworker, I thought I could do even better so I cut 2 slabs out of some Brazilian cherry I had and copied the original boards exactly. I finished them in 3 coats of semigloss urethane. The result was spectacular. I think I might have the most gorgeous Carver receiver ever (unless someone else did the same thing and outdid my Brazilian cherry wood). I will upload a photo when I get permission. So I've always kept this unit in pristine condition. I still have the original box which I use whenever I move, and I have the original FM antenna. The manual is somewhere in storage (I hope). The only problem is the sound of this receiver has been getting lousy. I figured it needed new capacitors and luckily I found the refurb kits on Ebay by Circuits and Concepts. I'm still waiting for the kits to arrive but I got the instructions and figured I'd start pulling some of the old caps and resistors. So I'm flipping the unit over and my hand accidentally crunched the video/dad button. The plastic on these things are obviously old and very brittle! I'm sure I'm not the only one out there with broken knobs or buttons... So my question right now is is this button available anywhere? And is it possible to change it out? It looks like it's very difficult to access it, there's so much wiring and stuff to dismantle in the display panel. Any advice?

  7. Hello fellow Carver enthusiasts! I am a retired electrical engineer with a long interest in Carver products. I own a Carver HTR-880 Receiver from the 1990's, purchased at the late, great Cambridge Soundworks retail store at the Northshore Mall in Peabody, MA. It was originally a gift to my late father, and I got it back just before he passed. The one issue I have is I can't find the owner's manual for it! I'm hoping someone can help me find one. I'm thrilled that Bob Carver is back! I wish him the greatest possible success in his latest venture. I look forward to sharing my fondness for Carver products with all of you. Best Regards, Bob Atkinson

  8. Hi there, new member. Own a C9 and TX11 bought in 1980 and not used for a while. Experimenting with recording audio and would like to use the C9 in playback system. However, my C9 had a problem in left channel very early on and I am looking for a schematic so I can try to fix it (and upgrade parts). Also interested in more technical detail. I think we should be able to replicate the holographic effect using a DSP. Could be done in real-time or perhaps by preprocessing recordings (looking at Mid-Side recording…). Hoping to find the info here, or get pointers as to where to look further :-)

  10. Hello everyone I wanted to update you all that I just posted List 1 of Barry Galvin's Estate sale on the Novice's gear (FS/WTB) forum. Apologies for the long delay I injured my ankle and wasn't able to go to the storage unit and get an inventory and was only able to get a partial inventory but wanted to get things moving. I believe there are about 10 more pieces of equipment and more components to post. Thank you all for your patience.

  12. I liked them. Also BMG. I used to get their CD of the month; it broadened my exposure to different bands. I even did he reel to reel format.

  13. I once got 12 albums for a penny using my cat's name. (For years afterward we got junk mail addressed to "Ginger" Schieding.) Once the time came for me to make the subsequently required purchases and I did not do so... the warning mails started coming....then phone calls. Finally, my mom answered one of the calls and asked them "did you know you made a contract with a 14 year old boy and his cat?". We never heard from them again. LOL.

  16. Welcome! You can get schematics and service data at the top of any page by clicking on the 'Manuals and Specsheets' tab. As to recording, I've done a fair amount of location recording over the years (almost all acoustical) and the closest I've come to reproducing the Sonic Holography effect has been with the Neumann KU 100 Dummy Head. If you aren't familiar with the KU 100, it essentially produces a binaural recording taking into account the natural spacing of our ears and the accompanying time delay. And while the effect is good with quality speakers, it's great with headphones where room reflection artifacts aren't present. I think the KU 100 is somewhere around $10,000 right now, so kind of tough to justify to simply play around with it The genius of what Bob Carver figured out with SH was how to deal with the left/right delay and room artifacts in a normal room with normal speakers. The only real requirement is to make sure the listening position is at a nodal point so the cancellation effect is at maximum. I know many have recorded Sonic Holography encoded content and got good results. I'm not sure how one might use DSP to do similar, but I suppose a contemporary engineer who's familiar with that tech may have some ideas. And there are some good threads here on restoring/upgrading the C9 and some members with some real expertise with that unit. Try a search and you should find plenty of info.

  18. About 20 years or so I purchased Sunfire equipment. The Sunfire tubed pre-amp and 2 channel amp. Nice rookie purchase. Paired them with Kirksaeter speakers. Wow, did that match work. in a bad move,i sold the Pre-amp 2015. The Kirksaeters are also gone. I’ve now paired the Sunfire amp with an Audiolab integrated amp and Klipsch Forte speakers. Sounds good. Not like the Sunfire system. Gonna be chasing that ghost forever. Cheers to Bob and the Sunfire squad.

  20. the size of the content in the post should not be any more than 1.0mb. This includes text and pictures. @Sk1Bum I think this is still current. I usually edit my pictures to about 500kb or less. This picture started out as a 2.7 MB file. Transferd it from my phone to my laptop and used a photo editor to reduce it to 439kb. Might be able to change the resolution on the phone so it only takes smaller pictures. Hope this helps.

  23. As @BobTFM35 pointed out, you definitely want to replace that power plug with a grounded plug as it originally was configured. A previous owner was likely trying to get rid of some hum in their setup and starting lifting grounds to see if that helped. This is not really a good idea but sometimes in the field (usually as a last resort), grounds start getting lifted to attempt to eliminate a ground loop. As to the connection between the C1 and the PM1201, you'll be making an unbalanced connection so you can use either the 1/4" inputs or the XLRs on the amp. You should be able to find pre-made cables for both at Amazon. I like to use XLR connectors as they make the best low-level connections. So the cable would typically be RCA tip to XLR pin 2, then connect both the shield and ground lead to the RCA ground, then the ground to XLR pin 1 and the shield to pin 3. Make very sure that you configure both channels the same with respect to pins 2 and 3 so you don't get one channel out of phase relative to the other. If you're making these cables up yourself, you'll need a 2-conductor cable with a shield - 100% shielding is always best and something like Belden 8451 works nicely although it has a hard PVC jacket. For something more flexible you can try a mic cable like Mogami W2549 or Belden 8412. Good luck with the new setup. Should sound very nice - what speakers will you be using?

  30. Julian Lage, Speak To Me was released on March 1, 2024. "Jazz can be abstract when it needs to be, trafficking in moods and colours, and so it is here, where Speak To Me can take us from the papery textures and unfinished thoughts of Hymnal, right into the skronky über-groove of Northern Shuffle and its thrill-ride lead motif that has the character of Link Wray through the wormhole, and then on into the pastoral acoustic melodies of Omission." 32. Bela Fleck, Rhapsody in Blue was released on February 12, 2024. "It's a long way from India to Broadway, but Bela Fleck makes the journey in high style for Rhapsody in Blue. It follows the altogether exotic As We Speak (Thirty Tigers, 2023), the combination of which further a case for the banjoist/composer/bandleader as an eclectic musical explorer comparable to Pat Metheny. Beginning in the slow-but-sure, occasionally fitful way this album's concept came together, "Rhapsody in Blue (grass)" features seemingly conventional banjo voicings alternated with George Gershwin's inimitable progressions. Those interludes with Fleck tourmates My Bluegrass Heart are segments capturing how that ensemble bonds with the banjoist in moments of alternating wit and empathy." 33. @ButchP Welcome to the Carver site! I have absolutely no experience with the 1201 and don't know what is missing or modified since the ground was cut off. To hook it up to the C1 I might use a 1/4 inch TRS on the amp side to rca cable on the C1 side. Using the XLR port you would have to worry about having the correct + and - at the pin for the xlr and having the correct polarity termination at the RCA end. The XLR Connector polarity is talked about on page 9. Several things are discussed in the manual between pages 6 to 9 and they talk about grounding and not removing the pin and if the pin is removed you must have the chassis properly grounded and any necessary jumpers installed. One area of "extreme importance" is item 5 on page 7. I "would not" plug it in without having the plug repaired with the proper end that has the ground restored. The PM model is Carvers Professional model and from what I gather used in more of a concert venue. That's about all the help that I can offer. How to make a cable, or repair the plug or grounding is not in my skill set to properly guide one in such a task. The C1 is somewhat straight forward in hooking up stuff. All RCA connections.
