  1. Basically, “Power Steering” is just a fancy way of saying that you are only calling upon the power supply to drive one channel of the amp. This allows for a *bit * of additional headroom.  If you are driving the amp hard, the benefit to the power supply of driving only one channel could be significant. If at normal listening levels, the power supply is not overly taxed, and the benefit would most likely be non-existent.

Where is a good place to get quality parts for a rebuild

Are you looking for Carver specific parts (face plates, meters, rack handles, etc), or electronic parts (capacitors, transistors, diodes, etc)?

Carver parts are dificult to come by, but several of us have various parts units to pull from.

Electronic parts can be obtained from Mouser ( https://www.mouser.com/?cm_mmc=google-_-ppc-_-americas-_-Brand&gclid=CKmsl4iXiLgCFcqDQgodpHYAGA ), Digikey ( https://www.digikey.com/?WT.srch=1&WT.medium=cpc&WT.mc_id=IQ59981661-VQ6-27771403515-VQ16-t ), and B&D Enterprises for hard to find transistors ( https://www.bdent.com ).

I really don't suppose that's a swap meet at some very high end audio club, is it?  O.o

If so, I need to NOT be invited...  I count at least four (4) Mark Levinson amps, a big Krell, so Pass Labs stuff, and some REALLY nice speakers...

  4. Nothing takes me back to my high school days quite like Van Halen. My first concert was the 1984 tour by Van Halen, when I was a mere 14 years young.  Many people don’t know that Eddie was originally a drummer, and Alex the guitarist...

“Exposed to music early by their father, a jazz musician, and classically trained, Eddie and Alex Van Halen turned to rock music soon after their family emigrated from the Netherlands to southern California in the 1960s. In time Eddie, a drummer, and Alex, a guitarist, switched instruments. A demo financed by Gene Simmons of Kiss led to their band’s critically acclaimed debut album, Van Halen (1978), which eventually sold more than 10 million copies in the United States alone.”

Rest in peace - you certainly made an impact🤘🤘🤘

Congrats Mark! That brisket looks delicious. I've wanted a Traeger for a long time.

If I ever make it out there, can we put that guy on the list of things to do? :D

    absolutely my friend, absolutely!

  6. As a devout charcoal BBQer (Good 'ol Weber kettle), I have been considering a pellet grill for a while now.  I happened across an ad in the local classifieds for a Traeger grill, brand new, with a dent and a couple scratches.  It's the Pro22, and retails new for $599.  This one was $400 with cover and front shelf.  After a lengthy conversation with @B-Man , I decided now was the time!

I arranged to look at it one night last week, on my way home from work.  When I met the guy in his driveway, he asked what color I wanted...?  My bullshit meter went from about 10 watts (I'm always a bit weary of these meetings, and take appropriate precautions, but that's for another post) to 500 watts.  He must have seen the look in my eyes, and he quickly said that he has quite a few, and that he sells them as a kind of "side business".  Still weary, I look as he opens his gate on his fence, and there, in his back yard are about thirty (30) Traegers, assembled with their covers on.  Turns out there is a Traeger factory (distribution center?) close by, and they sell “scratch & dent” models there for about a $100 discount.  However, they offer increased discounts based on how many you buy – So this guy buys about 50 at a time, gets an insane discount (He wouldn’t tell me exactly, but I think he gets them for about half of retail.  Super nice guy too – after I pick one out, he plugs it in, shows me that it works, and gives me the Cliff Notes on how to run it.  Then he helps me load it in my truck, and I’m off.

Fast forward to Wednesday night.  When I buy brisket, I usually cut them in half to freeze them in two pieces (the “flat”, and the “point”).  Seeing as how this was to be my first experience with the Traeger, I decided to do a “point”, as the “flat” is more desirable, and if I was going to ruin a piece of meat, I didn’t want it to be a “flat”.  So I put a point in the marinate of pineapple juice and soy sauce ( Thanks @Sk1Bum for this simple and effective marinate) Wednesday night . At 6am Saturday morning I put the brisket on the traeger at 225 degrees and went to work.  I told my wife to check it every hour or so, and when the internal temp hit 155 degrees, I told her to pull it off, wrap it in foil, and put it back on.  At about 1:30 it hit 155, and she wrapped it.  I got home at 6pm, and it had just hit 205 degrees internal, so I pulled it off and let it rest for a half hour.  Long story short, it was fantastic, and SOOO easy.  I only used 1/3 of the pellet hopper, and per Brian’s advice I wrapped the drip pan in foil, so cleanup was a breeze.  This has definitely been a GREAT purchase!  Thanks @B-Man and @Sk1Bum for all the help and advice.

From what I heard out of the Premier 140, I do like the C-J sound.

Just my opinion, but at 8k (and the gear sacrifices you’d be making) I’d need to be in love, not like...😉

  8. So over the past several weeks, I have had the opportunity to try a few different CBD products.  I have outlined my experiences below for anyone interested...

The first one I tried was Seven7h Sense in a “stick” (think deodorant) applicator. This one was a fairly low dose, only being 200mg of CBD in the stick. Pluses are an easy applicator and a nice scent.  With a menthol base, it is very similar to Icy Hot. Unfortunately, I did not see much difference between it and Icy Hot:-(. Price $25 for 2.2oz = $11.36/oz

The next one I tried was Proper Hemp CBD joint cream.  This one is 250mg of CBD, BUT it’s only a 1oz jar, so it’s pretty concentrated. It has a VERY prominent odor that I found very off-putting at first, but it kinda grew on me. It actually works pretty well - pain fades to about 50% within 10-15 minutes of application. The big downside though - $60 for 1oz jar...

Then I tried Recover 1500 from CBDMD.  This one comes in a large 4oz jar that contains 1500mg of CBD for $65! It has no perceptible odor, and works very well, cutting pain by 50% almost immediately. $65 for a 4oz jar = $16/oz.  If you order from the CBDMD site, enter “Rogen” in the coupon code for a 30% discount (they sponsor his podcast).

Perhaps my favorite is Premium Freeze 750 from CBDMD. It’s a roll-on in a 3oz container with 750mg of CBD. It has a nice menthol scent, and cuts pain by about 30% almost immediately. The roll-on applicator is nice, because you don’t have to get your hands in it.  $39 for the 3oz bottle = $13/oz. Same deal with the Rogen promo code.

I also tried some drops before bed. I got them from the Proper Hemp co, and I must say, they REALLY help with longer, more restful sleep.  I normally wake up every 2-3 hours in the night.  With the drops before bed, I sleep 5-6 hours straight. Taste is a little on the yuck side, but most definitely worth it!  A little pricy at $40 for a 30-day supply, but again, worth it...

I hope anyone considering trying CBD finds this useful.

I really want THESE! Since I had to return a defective Premier 140, I have been looking...

If I sell my C-19, SD/A-490t, TX-11b and all four Silver 7t's, I might be able to swing it. It's only $900.00 for a new set of output tubes.

That’s A LOT of gear to part with.... although those ARE nice amps - do you have prior experience with them? By that I mean are you buying them to try out and see if you like them, or do you know that you’ll love them, and they’ll be in your system for years?
