  1. I have been using this on the vinyl collections I inherated. My only complaint is its not worth cleaning 1 or 2, I go back to the disk washer when thats all I have. I do use a anti-static brush every time I put on on the table http://www.amazon.com/SPIN-CLEAN-STARTER-RECORD-WASHER-SYSTEM/dp/B002UKSZUU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1394023379&sr=1-1&keywords=record+washer
  2. Have to repost a few of those!

To take it one step further..... I think that the degradation will differ based on the cut of the stylus diamond. Think of it just like a cutting tool used in maching, different angles on the tip produce different effects in the material they cut, just like different cuts of the stylus produce different resonance of the groove. Not sure the physics behind stylus design: But I could see where sharper "points" on the stylus may produce sharper tones, but the sharper point removes more material.
  4. Seems like the video also suggested a glue to use. Titebond maybe?
  5. The video's I have seen on this the glue is THICK.
  6. Sadly I only own half of them on vinyl. A problem I need to rectify

  8. I eyed that panel saw too! Always wanted one, even to the point of trying to engineer one myself on the cheap. Never did.... Funny panel saw story: I was in Lowes one day having some plywood cut down on their panel saw. Lowes, as seems to be practice of late, had hired yet another one of the finest those in need of a job, they could. The guy sets things up, has me double check his measurements before he cut it. Seemed he had some trouble reading a tape.... Well makes the first cut, it was to be ripped down into multiple strips, 4, all the same width. I suggested he set the saw up where my desired width was cut from the bottom thus giving me 4 strips the same size. He agreed and did such. So the first cut is fine he rips with the saw the correct way, feed the wood into the saw. Next one he said I'm just going to push it back through and make the next cut. I quickly speak up and say thats not a good idea, lets carry the sheet back around and feed it like we just did. Unfortunatly, he didnt agree with me this time and proceded to feed the sheet back wards into the saw. Well, as expected it made a terrible noise, then bound up the saw blade, stalled the motor, tripped the breaker and required the manager to reset things AND get another sheet of plywood due to the bad cut. At least no one got hurt
  9. Yea I saw that one, but the glass plates in a warm oven are the same principal, correct?
  10. Thanks Steve, I was concerned about the grooves, which is why I am asking. Confirms my concern. Paul
  11. Anyone had any luck with some DIY scheme to flatten warped vinyl? I was given another 50ish a few with some bad warts of warp. Not sure how they were stored, but almost as if something was pressing up on them in a box. A few are some I'd really like to keep, and there may be more in the stack with the same issue. I've listened to 10 ish so far. I have read some diy's that used tempered glass, approx 14" sqr x 1/4 thick. Sandwich the album between the sheets of glass and put it in the over at 150 for a certain period of time, then brought out to cool. I hate to spend $50 on 2 sheets of tempered glass if it wont work. I could use a couple sheets of aluminum plate with parchment paper between the plate and the album. Just curious if anyone has had any luck with any method Paul
  12. Man thats a funny scene (Sh!!!r full) The whole movies a riot
  13. First, I have come to appreciate a well engineered recording almost as much as the artist themselves. There are quite a few vinyl's that either sound great or like crap. I hear so much new stuff that is engineered for headphones so it seems. But here is one that really disappointed me. Movie was great! Made me dig through my collection looking for sound city recorded albums. I own several, Rumors, Damn the Torpedo's are the 2 the come to mind, and they are well recorded. So, the movie made me buy the vinyl almost immediately from Amazon. Boy was I disappointed. Ghrol seems to like to compress and then bump the loudness, the new trend in digital recordings. I will say my range expander helped some on this album but a major let down in sound quality
  14. The first I can remember, and this would be around 5 or 6.
  15. I was surpirsed to see all the channels availble on Roku after I began to look. So I will need to pick up a small monitor or tv to feed the roku, but I think I will incorporate it into the system. Plus I think I can hard wire the Roku, which might improve the quality overall, including Pandora. The cool things one learns on this BB Paul
  16. Per Grace Digital as a FYI: Paul, Thanks for writing in. I’m sorry to say that currently no Grace unit can play MOG but we are working towards offing more extra features MOG being one of those. Best Regards, Megan Tech Support

  18. Thanks! That is good info to know. I own 2 Roku boxes, and stream Netflix, Amazon and Pandora never bothered to look for MOG. I will do so this evening And I have a wifi capable bluray player which I plan on using to steam, thus freeing up 1 Roku. Hmmmm, a cheap screen would act as a UI and both boxes have RCA outs, plus I can hard wire the Roku thus a better stream rate! Thanks that actually is very good info the more I think about this!
  19. Bean, Playing around with MOG, or trying to..... I do like the quality so far of the stream 2 things so far: 1) On my laptop sitting in Starbucks the streaming is terrible.... multiple pauses on every song. Not tried this at my house yet, but plan to this evening. Its on a new laptop (running Linux) and the wifi signal is strong. I am bouncing between MOG and Pandora as a comparison. Pandora One I do not have the pauses, but I can hear a difference in quality, which I should since its 2x the bit rate I went to the support page and that seems to be a real issue with a lot of MOG subscribers. Have you had any issues? 2) Finding anything that says it will play MOG is impossible. Nothing lists MOG, not even the Squeezebox you mentioned. I want a quality unit to connect at home should I pursue MOG. Grace has a digital tuner that would look nice but no information on MOG, but then no information on MOG. I do plan on calling today since no emails have been answered by anyone I sent them to yesterday.
  20. Well I sent emails to several: MOG, to ask what players are supported. Not real clear on the web site. Grace, as to if my Solo would play MOG, if not, then what player they have that does. And Pandora, as to why the sound quality has dropped. I still question if its something on my end, but I think I have ruled out all possibilties. The only other possible on my end is a poor wireless signal? I do stream Netflix and Amazon with no real issues, but I guess that could cause degraded sound quality?
  21. Cool. It took over a year of a couple people bugging me to do it before I jumped in and now I can say its made my commute to and from work, and during MUCH better. That and I also have a Squeezebox that has a MOG app so I can use my phone to pull up my favorites, etc. It makes those few mins here and there I have to listen to music much more efficient, albeit at the cost of quality, but I find for most listening its adequate. I will PM you my phone number if you want so we can discuss it sometime as I honestly am a HUGE fan. Its also a great way to listen to an entire album before buying a CD copy so you know what your getting... I like everything I am hearing (pun intended). I signed up last night but didnt have a chance to play around much, and not much today. I need to investigate the players, as that is the one thing I use most often. Logitech and Grace both make them I think?
  22. I will check them out!! it's definitely Pandora that has the poor quality other stations on the grace do not suffer from the same quality loss in my testing this evening
