Sorry about not getting photos uploaded. I found the issue was on the display board as suggested above. Not sure which specific solder joint was cold. I simply reflowed all joints on the front display/switch board and am back up and running. I appreciate the suggestions.

Love an easy fix!  Great news.  Stick around and enjoy! 😉

  2. OK, the temps turned a couple of days ago..., highs in the 50s, were in the 80's last weekend.  I still don't want to let go of summer! 😉

I had a friend with a red 68 Pontiac Firebird convertible in high school, with the small-block 400 in it.  those were the days!

My preferred software has been dBpoweramp.

DBpoweramp is a dream..., and if you have a lot of CDs, or an audio-club that wants to do this, and you want to take it to the next level of automation..., you'll want one of these - an Acronova Nimbie BR/CD/DVD autoloader.  The Nimbie works with DBpoweramp software..., DBpoweramp website even recommends this drive. (Using your imagination..., and considering all your friends with CDs..., you can see how this can expand your digitally-ripped CD library..., really big, really fast!)  Pricey..., but if you split the cost with 10 of your audio-club friends..., it's affordable.

Strongly recommend you fool around with it before ripping 100's of CDs.  File naming, tags and directory structures can get tricky depending on your player.  Worst thing is to rip 100 CDs only to get smart and realize you have to di it again.

True statement..., and if you automate, you'll definitely want to think carefully about how you set this all up, to get the outcome you want.

  4. Welcome @Shannon.  Glad you found us.

The first place I would look to learn more about your Amazing Silver's is the Manuals Library.  That's accessed from the horizontal menu at the top of the home page.

After that, I would use the Search box (upper right) to search on various keywords to find threads on Amazing Silvers, Crossovers, rebuilds, etc. etc..., get creative on the keywords..., there's a LOT of data here.

  5. We have a Thursday Night Audio Group, called "Vinyl Night" here in my neighborhood.  Two of our members own EVERY high end vinyl recording..., not just the MOFI ones, but a whole host of "newly remastered..." stuff.

Bottom line, it sure sounds good to me, on $25,000++ systems they have when we meet on their week at their house.

For me, that's a hobby - buying every MoFi, and other new quality vinyl release as it comes out - that I can't afford.  I have several hundred maybe a couple thousand, albums on vinyl, but they are all the usual record store stuff, and some that I bought, back in my college days 40 years+ ago.  My friends buy two of everything and put one on ice, to sell later when the price goes up... - too rich for me.

So, to answer the question, no, my old, tired, used vinyl collection does not sound better.  Their stuff?  Hmmm, that's some darn good vinyl..., but for me, it's Roon, and digital.  That produces great sound on my system, for me.  And, it's within my budget.

Just picked up a 390t for repair. I'll be interested to listen to it.

@3M_Audio  Please start a repair thread on that unit in the appropriate Source topic. I have one, and it is in need of something, too.  Hopefully, I'll be able to follow along with your work, and figure mine out! 😉

  7. Welcome, @Dave in Texas, glad you found us.

Love that receiver, and can't wait to see the pictures you have collected on your effort.

The "insert" picture step is very easy - just a few more posts from you to the site, and it will work for you  - like @Sk1Bum already said.  We put this process in place to reduce/eliminate spam on the site - this site is all volunteer operated, and funded.  And, it's also a target of spammers - hence the hurdle to separate the real Carver fans from the spammers is in place.  Thanks for understanding.

To insert a picture, I just drag and drop jpg file into the text editor from a file folder.  Drop it inline with the text you write, in the location you want the picture to be inserted in the text.  There are other ways too - and you can farble around with the justification - but that's more advanced.

  8. Hey @Ar9Jim. All these research reference points, blogs, videos, need to be collected in one place.

They are so revealing.  I wonder if instead of one-by-one posts, they could instead build more momentum in a common thread on "Testing Reactive Speaker Loads vs Static Resistor Loads.

I think the science here is critical, but the noise from the ASR's of the world dominate the discussion.

I'm pondering how we can help you / BobCarverCorp evangelize this more.

It may be incomplete for someone wanting to run a multi channel system. Bob drew this for 2 channel use.  I'm betting there are enough 2 channel guys remaining to justify it's production. We get calls for the C9 often, even after all these years. Many were disappointed that the V12 didn't have SH included. This is for them.

@Ar9Jim, I know you have a handle on this market and every detail required to product manage this product to success.  I have great confidence that your leadership will produce and ship the best solution that will keep cash flowing and the Carver Legacy intact - and leave room for future development of Rev2, 3, 4, ...

You got this! Success is in your hands.

  10. In developing a lot of products..., I've experienced "feature creep..." to the point of detriment to the organization..., bsni5.jpg

I am hoping that @Ar9Jim is squirrelling away all these great ideas for Rev 2, 3, 4, 5 down the road, each year.  Jsut my opinion..., but also my hope.  Waiting years for this product to get to market just doesn't make sense, when the demand as a basic integration is there to a HUGE market well beyond Carver audiophiles (simply basing that on how many C-9's sold into non-Carver systems historically, and how much they go for today in the used market).

Personally, I'm hoping for a modern-looking current latest implementation (with all the service bulletins and such) of a combo-product of Bob's past most successful inventions - all-in-one.  I really like the idea of having one box, in the processor loop, two switch in and out of circuit these existing components of SH, a TB, and Gundry, and any Bob Carver available icing on the cake (DTL?) that Jim can pull off - without introducing feature creep that shuts down the project before it can get out the door.

A superhero to entrepreneurs of all types, a guy named Seth Godin, has coined the phrase "ship it" so you can live to ship future revisions, another day down the road.

The initial technologies, SH, etc., are perfected, tried, and true.   And, good enough to "ship it" so we can see Bob Carver Corp., to thrive to ship more things on their list..., like the Tube-based Phono Preamp, like the V12 preamp, ..., like the new PCB-board-based 350 monoblocks..., tenor.gif

..., and if executed well, like I know @Ar9Jim can do, maybe we'll see the holy grail of production Silver 900 Monoblocks come back online.  Yea, THAT would be really cool!

    Get 'er done, Jim.,

Make a box with as many of Bob's creations as possible.

I can't agree with this more..., a universal processor box, include the latest of all of these..., switchable in and out...

As to the DTL, I think that in combination with a Tube Buffer, this is an excellent combination to add. I've got a setup with it, and like it or not, it always makes CDs and streaming, sound better on my rig.  Having it switchable in and out of the loop, is the key to giving universal customization to everyone that gets one of these.

And, like the C-9 was sold like hot-cakes..., to non-Carver owners, this kind of "universal has it all" unit will sell into every other audiophile stack - e.g., NON-Carver audiophiles will be the biggest market.

Ship it in 3 weeks! get it out there!
