I'm sure that bugs dislike B-flat major, so I concur.

what are you guys talking about?.   The signature shows F# and C# which is the key of D.  the relative minor of D is B minor.  same notes in the scale.

  2. I wonder if the C-1000 is really a true Carver product or if it was a modified unit based on an existing or partnered design.  The reason I say this is because the front and back panel layout of the C-1000 are very similar to the Rotel RSX - 965 DD/DTS receiver (75 watts/channel) that came out around the same time.  Google some pictures of that Rotel receiver and you will see what i mean.

  3. The C-1000 has only composite and S-video so it is useless for video switching.  (not all that important to me or many others).  I owned a used C-1000 in 2004 and it spent 6 months in the repair shop.  It was horribly problematic.  The sound was nothing special.  Granted it could have been a bad unit all around.  It has pre-outs for all channels but you can't use it as a 5 channel amp on its own.  They look great but frankly if something goes wrong with it I think it will be very difficult to get it repaired.  There are simpler and better options.  My 5 cents.  (we don't have pennies anymore in this country so minimum is a nickel)

There's no rhyme or reason as to how they mount those outlets: prong on bottom, prong on top, I've got at least two pieces that have them sideways.

If you're only going to use two prongs quit being so cheap and stick on a two prong connector or just hard wire it in there and then you can complain about no detachable power cord.

Frank Van Alstine was funny, he said he finally put in a detachable power cord socket so you can buy your own fancy one and it can fall right out!

My point was that depending on how the IEC is orientated, it could change how a person wired up the live and neutral.  ie, if you said "pin closest to the fuse is live" and you did 99 that way and then some flunky installed the IEC upside down you may wire the neutral to the fuse without thinking.

I did a quick search for pics on the web and they all look to have the earth pin at the bottom so my observation is probably crackpot anyway.

I agree that if there is no earth connection, one would probably source two pin connectors for factory product.

    Lunchtime!

  5. Something else that they brought up at ASR was the fact that the Neutral side was fused rather than the live side.

    Interestingly, I noticed this;

This is the reviewed unit from the ASR website.  Notice that the earth pin in the picture is at the bottom.

If you go to the Bob Carver website and look at the picture of the Crimson 275 back panel, you will see that the IEC orientation is opposite, with the earth pin at the top!    https://www.bobcarvercorp.com/copy-of-crimson-raven

This orientation may affect how the wires are soldered to the fuse and switch.  One would have to open up the units to confirm how it is soldered.  Maybe some units have the live fused and some may have the neutral fused.

EDIT:  the unit on the bob carver website is probably actually a picture drawing and not an actual unit so maybe some folks who actually have a unit could say which way the IEC is installed.

The issue is there's a 3 prong receptacle on the amplifier and it specifically states in the owner's manual not to use a cheater plug, make sure to plug it into a 3 prong outlet for safety reasons.

A kit amp for enthusiasts is one thing, a production model is a different animal.

That's what the ruckus is about.

And if the Crimson 275 had been built with a TWO prong IEC, would they still be complaining that it doesn't have a chassis ground?

  7. I watched the whole thing twice.  Damn, I think I missed the John Lennon pocket incident again.  I was concerned that Disney (TM) would realize that they weren't making anywhere near enough profit off of the Get Back special and pull it in favor of a pay-per-view.

  8. Watched part 3 last night.  Very good except for some reason Peter Jackson thought we wanted to see Linda's daughter fooling around the studio and mostly just getting in the way for a full 20 minutes at the beginning.  A few shots would have been sufficient.

The rooftop performance was excellent for sound and pic quality.  When it came right down to it, the boys played and sang wonderfully.  I liked how the Apple front end staff delayed the 14 year old looking London bobby from gaining access to the roof too soon.

  9. Yes it was a pretty ambitious project to take on.  They would have completely fallen apart if they hadn't of had Yoko's binding force there all of the time.  She was the glue holding the whole thing together.

Like @BarryG, My tastes were, and are, still much broader.

I think most of us have pretty broad tastes in music.  That is not a reason to poo poo this Beatles documentary.  I would also watch a 6 hour documentary about Dave Brubeck recording Time Out, or Miles Davis recording Kind of Blue, etc.  As an amateur  guitar player, I am interested in watching how other people did it.

I watched the first episode and I am a big Beatles fan but I am not sure how interesting this would be to the casual fan since it was more about the creation of the songs rather than hearing the polished\finished versions.  Enjoyable for me none the less.

Agreed.  You have to be interested in the bigger picture of the Beatles to really appreciate this documentary.  I saw the Let It Be movie about 30 years ago and enjoyed it so I was looking forward to seeing more footage.  I had rented the Let It Be movie on VHS and later wanted to purchase it but NEVER saw it again available at any movie rental store or HMV or anything.  I think it was pulled for some reason.

Steve:  I maybe saw that lennon-pocket-incident but didn't pay much attention.  I will look for it the second, or third or fourth time i watch it.
