  1. WELCOME TO C! With your technical electronics background I'm sure you will pick up on the inner workings of Carver equipment quickly! Grab a chair and stay a while! I think you'll really like the TFM-25 once you have it up and running; it's got the classic Carver t-mod sound, and powerful to boot. There are several carver techs here regularly and can answer -almost- any question about Carver equipment so don't hesitate to ask them.
  2. Do we get 5 votes for R and 5 for O, or just 5 total? Could we have a bit more time to listen to the songs on the list? Sorry I've been listening to other reference music lately tuning my amp. (Super Bowl is on Sunday BTW) Rock the Vote!
  3. Not sure about that; I don't think Wayne needed to remove boards/transistors/etc to re-cap my TFM-45's. I just got the second one back from him yesterday; full recap with new arrays of high rail caps on custom PCB's designed by Les @ Circuits and Concepts.
  4. From other posts on this forum there has been discussion about the M-1.5t being too bright sounding in comparison to the TFM-42/45/4.0. The PM 1.5 sounds different than the TFM-45, it's got a tighter bass sound that's good, but it's less musical overall. They share similarities in architecture, but sound different.
  5. He's more into small simple systems now with tubes and efficient speakers. Bob has gotten back into tube amps in recent years too....
  6. Welcome! The Cube (400t) is a powerful little amp, but being in such a small form factor makes them difficult to work on/restore. It never ceases to amaze me at how much available power the Carver amps have, and how effortlessly they deliver it.
  7. You should be able to hear the sound on "Amused to Death" from beyond 90deg without SH turned on if everything is positioned just right. At Paul's I can hear it, at my place I can't because the room does not allow the best positioning of speakers/seating. I think the key is to have the speakers well away from the walls and seating in the middle of the room, not at the far end of it. Paul introduced me to that CD also, it's the first time I'd heard a holographic recording with sound that gives a placement beyond 90 degrees.
  8. So are the first 18 tracks the final cut or are the later tracks still being considered?
  9. Late mention for consideration, amazing soundstage, lots of complexity 'Walk a Thin Line' by Fleetwood Mac, on "Tusk"
  10. 'Long May You Run' by The Stills-Young Band on "Long May You Run"
  11. 'Until I'm Dead and Cold', by BB King on "Indianola Mississippi Seeds"
  12. If there is no Prince song suitable for a C! Reference CD of 2016 artists who have passed; then should we be considering music he wrote for other artists to perform? BB King (AKA King of the Blues) passed in 2015, should he be included here?
  13. I just thought the lead-in was fitting to his life story, and a CD of passed artists. I'm not a huge fan of Prince's music. The song "Let's Go Crazy" charted #1 on all 3 US charts (Pop, R&B, Dance); so that's why I suggested it. If there are other songs that would be better for a reference disc then please, post your top picks. There were no posts in reference to Prince and I did not want his music to be forgotten.
  14. 'Lets Go Crazy', by Prince on "Purple Rain" Dearly beloved We are gathered here today To get through this thing called "life" Electric word, life It means forever and that's a mighty long time But I'm here to tell you There's something else The afterworld A world of never ending happiness You can always see the sun, day or night So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills You know the one, Dr. Everything'll-Be-Alright Instead of asking him how much of your time is left Ask him how much of your mind, baby Cause in this life Things are much harder than in the afterworld In this life You're on your own
  15. Wow, sorry to create a stir; but I just thought it would be good to hear the voice of Glenn Frey on a reference disc honoring people who have passed. Don also sings the lyrics in On the Border. What about 'Take it Easy'? Great vocals by Glenn there, he also finished writing the lyric for Jackson Browne who credits Glenn as being the person who got the lyrics to sound right. 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' is also a great song with Glenn on vocals; he also helped Jack Tempchin in completing the song.
  16. Pink Floyd - 'Fearless' on the Meddle LP Hotel California was sung by Don Henley. I propose either Life in the Fast Lane or Heartache Tonight.
