    1. There were several versions of quad, the version I had was cd-4!  Provided four discrete channels not hybrid like other versions!  Found this on the web about cd-4! I wish I would have kept that equipment and quad recordings!

    CD-4

This is the “odd man out” in the quad world. Extremely ‘fine’ grooves were etched onto the vinyl record to provide frequencies between 35,000 and 50,000 hertz. The CD-4 demodulator sensed these high frequencies then converted them to a range of around 100 to 15,000 hertz. These frequencies were then sent to the amplifier and on to the rear channels.

  1. Last year, the DC HIFI group had a demo at a Maggie dealer with 30.7’s it was quite impressive.  It was at Overture Audio in Delaware.  @SteveFord next time we have a local carver group get together I’ll send you an invite.  Your still in PA right.  I am between Baltimore and Washington just  east of Columbia.  Also I usually work as a volunteer at Capital Audiofest. I am hoping things settle down so it happens this year!

  2. Welcome back Steve @SteveFord! IIRC.; You had some very entertaining posts on here.

I too venture through audio circle.  I read a lot on open baffle speakers, GR Research and Spatial Audio as well as other circles. My handle there is BarryG443.  I have even posted in your Frank Zappa vinlyl thread!  I recently purchased a Spatial Audio  M3 Turbo Master set of open baffle speakers!

  3. Welcome to the site. I noticed a lot of Heathkit on your bench, when I did photo equipment repair, I had def a lot of self built Heathkit test gear!

I think you will fit in well in this corner of cyberspace!  As always turn it up, grab a beverage, kick off your shoes, relax and enjoy the tunes!

    I'm lazy...

    I have that cartridge...,

I just use the ELAC PPA-2 phono-pre to just "dial it in" using my ears...

Picked up that unit from our good buddy Jim Clark, over at Jim Clark Stereo (Carver Tube Amp Dealer), here in IL.

Never going back to researching loading, finding installation materials, reading tables of 6pt font, setting DIP switches ... LoL. 😉

Jim Clark @AR9jim, let me evaluate and review an ELAC PPA2, I kept it!  It does a great job with my 30ohm MC cartridge!  I sounds fantastic, let’s you dial in left and right loading individually, and as your listening!

    vinylengine is an excellent resource!
