  1. Welcome to the forum!  From a solid state gear head just getting into tube amps the last 3 years, I like the tubes as well.  As for solid state, my preference has been to refurbish all my own gear that I am going to keep and use.  If you enjoy doing it yourself, great.  If not, Nelion Audio is who I would recommend to service it. Glad you found the manuals and enjoy the bedtime reading........grin

  2. When I first got interested in audio, the looks of the gear and the sound is what caught my attention.  When I was able to afford nice gear (brand name), my ear is still what drove my choice to purchase.  Did I look at the specs, sure.  Did they matter that much, not really.  My ears and the looks of the gear is what drove the purchase.  I appreciate Bob's ideas and designs, I like the looks, and the sound....well that's why I own them.  Now, as I am older (61), the nostalgia adds a factor to the decision.    As with tube amps, Bob's Black Magic 25 with KT120 tubes is the best sounding tube amp I have heard.  I like the tube sound better than solid state and I have listened to solid state most of my life.  And do I need to mention looks......grin.  So, for me, since I can afford it, I would rather have a quality sounding piece of gear that looks great instead of something cheap.  Price is not the driver for me, it's value that determines the dollars spent.

Forget tubes.  The tube sound comes from the amplifier output stage.  This is a signal processor.

The problem with the SH generator is that it's designed to cancel only the 1st arrival of the opposite channel.  I redesigned mine to cancel 1st arrival and all subsequent arrivals.  That is, it cancels the cancellation signals.  It has quite a different sound, and I had to shape the frequency response differently.  It's part of my C-4000 redesign project.  Unfortunately the project is on hold since I sold my house.

Have you tried discussing your "mods" with Bob personally?

A DTL, autocorrelator, peak unlimitor could be a product of its own.

For now the the SH generator will have the Gundry option included, and the tube buffer can be optional. The option can be fairly easy to accommodate and can keep the base unit cost lower.

Guys can have it either way.

Tubes sticking out the top are wanted by some, but not by others for stacking components. Part of the allure is the visible glow.

The unit will be about the same depth as a C1 so it's friendly to be stacked with others.

Thanks for the input. Keep it coming.

Do you guys want to see video when the chassis and face plates are being machined?

I would like to see the video!  If it's real long, Bob, pass the popcorn........😂😂

I now have a C-1 with the Bill D. mod and wow, does it sound nice.  I'm in the queue for Nelion to upgrade my M-500 (in 2022 - there's a holding pattern).  When I get that back I expect my system will be good for another couple of decades.  I'm very pleased with the sound now, so when the Mk II is complete on the M-500 I expect even better sound.

I've also been reading about DACs and Streamers too - but I'm a slow adopter of gear, so I'll keep reading.  But once the M-500 is a Mk II I may breakdown and get a DAC/Streamer combo just to have that ease of access to the huge world of recordings available through a streaming service.

You will enjoy the M500t and C-1 combo. I am old school so I have cds, cassette tape, mini disc and DAT. I like the formats and recording to them. The different technologies are fun to listen to. Let us know what brand of DAC and streamer you buy…… grin

  6. Welcome KevinL! Great deal you found on that M1.5t. I would recommend getting it refurbished. Nelion Audio has refurbished several amplifiers for me and he does great work. After he is done with it, it will sound good for another 30 years……..grin
