  1. Welcome Jim! Let us know if you're looking for anything. I have a large surplus of gear and I'm ready to share at reasonable prices. I gotta go check out those speakers. I'm intrigued.Just checked 'em out. How do they sound off-axis? Looks like you need to be in your listening position or you don't get much sound. I get the concept alright, I imagine it's a bit like sonic holography effects. Enlighten us, please.

    Vinyl record cleaner

THIS looks interesting, cheap and easy.
  3. For you vinyl guys, try this- rub the edge and center(not the grooves) of your records with a dryer sheet before playing. Also cut a dryer sheet to a size a little bigger than the label, with a 1/4" hole in the middle, and put that on the platter mat, under the record. I think you will notice fewer pops and clicks from static. 5 to10 seconds in the microwave oven will activate the dryer sheet, for better results. Be careful, it gets HOT fast!
  4. January, 1974 I purchased my first LP's: Deep Purple- Made in Japan and Edgar Winters Group- They Only Come Out at Night. A few days before( Xmas, 1973) I received Pink Floyd DSOTM. Classics, all of them!
  5. Strange But True! I just remembered this- An old friend of mine has an extensive collection of 45's for his jukebox. He uses WD-40 on them! Seriously! He sprays the crap out of them before loading. I can hear the degradation of sound quality, but he thinks it sounds great. I don't think I'd ever try that with a record, cartridge or TT that I cared about. The only positive I can imagine is reduced friction for longer stylus life. High frequency response goes right out the window as the fluid dampens movement. Platter slippage must be crazy, too.
  6. My formula is 2 cups water to 1/2 cup isopropyl alcohol with a few drops of Dawn dish detergent. Best if water is distilled. Alcohol at 92%. You can put it in a dropper type container or a spray bottle.
  7. Thanks. That is the one format I never tried and missed that one totally. I find the DTS Audio disc are great. However, they run the Bass on the "HOT" side. It is deep and full sounding, while the SACD only shines in that area if you are pretty much running full size speakers all the way around the room. That is so true, matching speakers and amps for all 5 or 7 channels is a must with SACD's.
  8. Got 'em! Tried it out. Nice player. Looks and works like new! Decodes the HDCD no problem. No skipping. PM me if you are interested in it. I'm knee deep in CD changers, mostly Sony. Mark, How much for the Mannheim Steamroller CD? I'll send the others back.
  9. I was under that impression, too, but I'd like to hear for myself!
  10. I just acquired a Denon DCM-390 CD player ($19.99 at Goodwill, with the remote!) and it is supposed to play HDCD's. I don't have one and thought maybe somebody here could give, sell or lend me one to see if it works and to compare to my Sony SACD's. Pink Floyd DSOTM would be first choice, NIN Downward Spiral would be second, as I have both of those in regular stereo and SACD already. It's really clean and I will probably be flipping it if anyone really wants it, PM me.
  11. Nice Karma Daddyjt! Reminds me that I need to find another Karma item soon... Enjoy it, Gene!
  12. Wow, I'm in for Steely Dan "Aja" and Pink Floyd "DSOTM" as well...use them all the time. Have multiple CD, vinyl, 8-track, etc. of each.
  13. I am a giver of music. Not a receiver... OK, because I have what I like. I've given away lots of vinyl and CD's. I wouldn't live long enough to listen to Dom's collection!
  14. I remember him from Hawkwind in the 70's!
  15. The R2R and Vinyl blows away 8 track and cassette... Very true! But my Akai RTR has 8-track on the side of it, so they go together. I have a Panasonic and Pioneer RTR, too, as well as some other 8-track deck I can't remember. I just want to be able to play any format. I no longer own a 4-track deck or tapes(Muntz) but I used to! I have some Quad recordings, so I'm thinking about making a 4-channel system, too. I have 4 AR-94's, I might use here, plus I have the Snell Type Ci's I picked up Saturday.
  16. I'm putting a system together that will include vinyl, 8-track, reel to reel, cassette and CD. Exact components of the system not yet fully realized. I have new, un-opened Baba Bazooba vinyl I can't wait to hear.
