I'm a bit late to respond but it was great to finally meet the Bob-father and Steve Iskalis and reconnect with Greg and Jenny, Lee and Deb, and Jim and Lerma. Hoping to meet up with Andrew in the near future.

Jazz at the Pawnshop is a live multi-session recording by Gert Palmcrantz made at Jazzpuben Stampen (Pawnshop) in Stockholm, Sweden on December 6–7, 1976. Proprius Records founder Jacob Boethius produced the album which is widely regarded by as the best jazz recording of the 20th Century.

This is another album that takes me back to my years in Nevada. It's the first of 2 albums (Bang and Miami) to feature future Deep Purple guitarist Tommy Bolin.

I was living in a small cabin made with ties from the Las Vegas and Tonapah Railroad when this was released in 1975. The blue heron that nested on the pond behind the cabin would sit on the porch steps rocking it's head from side to side every time I played it.

Admittedly, Tom Waits is an acquired taste. Of his many albums Small Change is my favorite because it takes me back to some of the shady strip clubs and brothels I visited during my time in Nevada.

When asked about the relative success of the album Waits stated "I'd say there's probably more songs off that record that I continued to play on the road, and that endured. Some songs you may write and record but you never sing them again. Others you sing em every night and try and figure out what they mean. "Tom Traubert's Blues" was certainly one of those songs I continued to sing, and in fact, close my show with."

JJ Cale, the musician's musician and one of the originators of the "Tusla Sound", has been covered by a wide range of artists from Dr. Hook to Widespread Panic. He was also a strong influence on Eric Clapton, Mark Knofler and Neil Young.

My local progressive rock station (WXRT Chicago, 93.1 MHz) had a penchant for digging up jems. This 1989 King's X album was one of them.

Original version of Chitlins con Carne from Kenny Burrell's 1963 album Midnight Blue (another LP recorded and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder). Features Burrell on guitar, Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone, Major Holley on bass, Bill English on drums and Ray Barretto on conga.

Spread The Love by Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters (2010)

I'm not a big fan of country music but this 1976 release by Atlanta Rhythm Section seamlessly blends in elements of rock and jazz.

Moanin' is another classis jazz LP engineered by Rudy Van Gelder and recorded at his New Jersey studio (1958). The lineup is Art Blakey (drums), Lee Morgan (trumpet), Benny Golson (tenor sax), Bobby Timmons (piano) and Jymie Merritt (bass).

Big "one arm" John Wrencher (he lost his left arm in a car accident in the late 50's) with Little Buddy Thomas (guitar) and Playboy Vinson (drums), regular street performers on Chicago's Maxwell Street during the 60's. Cover art is by R. Crumb.

UB40 Live recorded during a series of concerts in Ireland in 1983. Songs are from their first 3 studio albums.

I have been a fan of jazz since high school thanks to a man named Ollie Berger who provided sound reinforcement for our production of West Side Story in 1968. Ollie taught me a lot about music, audio, recording, miking techniques, etc while I worked with him on and off until he passed away in 1987. At his funeral I was surprised to learn from his widow that he had bequethed his entire collection of 50's and 60's jazz to me (about 3,000 LPs and a few 100 RTR tapes). Sadly I have to admit that there are still many titles I haven't listened to.

I pretty much stopped adding to my music collection soon after Zack was born (November 1995). When he started college and joined the jazz combo he was constantly asking me for suggestions for new (old) material so I ripped several hundred classic jazz titles for him. In return he has been sending me links to new jazz (No BS! Brass Band, Plini, Snarky Puppy, etc.) and buying me CDs for my birthday, Christmas and Father's Day.

One of those gifts was this 2018 album by the Norwegian rock/jazz/fusion band Owane who are reminiscent of 70's fusion goups like Return to Forever. Hope you enjoy it.

Gary Hoey covered Hocus Pocus on his 1993 release Animal Instinct, and it's instrumental so NO YODELING!

This album was recorded over the course of 2 days in 1968 for a cost of $13,000. Bloomfield and Stills were never in the studio at the same time.
