zumbini 6,078
On his 1988 solo album Born 2 B Blue Steve Miller covers lots of well known jazz artists. This interpretation of Horace Silver's Filthy McNasty is one of my favorites. An extended live version by the Horace Silver Quintet from 1961: 1
zumbini 6,078
The song Black Betty began as a work or marching chant with roots dating back to the 18th century. (The term "black betty" may refer to a flintlock musket, a whip, a liquor bottle, or a penitentiary wagon.) The 1st known recording was made at Central State Prison Farm in 1933. The 1st commercial recording was made by Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter in 1939. In 1977 it was a big hit for Ram Jam (the version most of us are familiar with): Since then there have been literally 100's of covers of the song. Here are just a few: (this version was used in the 2004 movie Dukes of Hazzard) 2
