New MN member & some thoughts on the TX1-11 FM Decoder

Recommended Posts

I found this site while doing some research on my TX1-11 FM processor.

A little background - I have been an audio hobbyist since my early teens and it still is a vital activity for me now that I am in my 6th decade.

Back in the day I used vinyl, FM and RTR tape as sources. RTR tape morphed into high end cassette, vinyl morphed into many CDPs, then CDPs with DACs, and now wireless streaming of primarily my own lossless music library to a SB Duet or Touch. FM has been a constant, although the gear has changed from a kit built Heathkit receiver and a Dynaco FM5 to the separate tuners listed below.

My son has my first Carver piece, a C-1. As noted at the beginning of this post, I do have a TX1-11, which is coupled to a Nakamichi 430 (currently) or a Yamaha T-85 tuner. I live in a rural area a long way from my preferred classical station, so sensitivity in the tuner, plus the noise and multipath processing that the TX1-11 can provide, yields a very decent signal. As a matter of my experience, my FM listening is significantly enhanced by the TX1-11 over either tuner alone. As the unit is easily disengaged, I can take it out of the loop for the few strong signals that I can receive.

Speaking of the TX1-11, are there any "inside the chassis" photos on this site?

Welcome to the Site, Tillerman.

I did a little digging around but couldn't find any nudies of the TX1-11. Perhaps you could upload something? It's not a terribly common processor but it seems you're using it just as intended. Most around here who use FM do so with the popular TX-11a although several other models are also used that have internal TX1-11 functions.

What kind of FM antenna are you using?

Thanks weitrhino. Next time I need to do some system maintenance, I will pull the top off the TX1-11 and take some photos for reference here.

To answer your question, I use a (now discontinued) Winegard HD6055P, mounted on a tripod with a 10' mast, on the top of my 2 story farm house.

All - thanks for the welcome.

PMAT - speaking of pictures, it may not be PC but I do like the GIF in your avatar. Per your request, I will take a few and reply back later.

Also, on that thought, I was wondering how the album art is being handled in the "What are you listening to now" thread? I ask, because the OP said to not attach images, but to attach links. Is that what I see is image links?

Welcome!
And thanks for the pics.
As far as the TX1-11 - I'd wager it is the very same circuit that the TX-11a has.
Do you want to know how it works? Big Grin

Explain it to us.......

Yes. Rather than uploading the photo you wish to display it's better to simply link to the photo elsewhere on the net. Here's the instruction set for inserting different kinds of media into your posts:
