compwaco 1,129 Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 There are a lot of Jazz pieces with great Bass lines but my all time favorite is in another direction all together... 5 4

zumbini 6,146 Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 Two of the best practitioners of double bass - Ray Brown and Niels-Henning ϴrsted Pedersen - with piano master Oscar Peterson 3 3
dcl 3,243 Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 To The End of the World opens with Steve Rodby's bass line, elegant with a sense of economy & eminently hummable. Along the way there are pivots & key changes but the bass anchors the song as it segues from the main melodic theme & tempo to keyboard & guitar interludes, then finally brings the song back home after Metheny's crescendo. It ends as it begins but you are left with the feeling of having been transported elsewhere only to softly alight. In my imagination this song is an inspiration for couples ice dancing. 6 1
zumbini 6,146 Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 If you'd like to be exposed to lots of great bassists in one place check out The Deepest End - Live In Concert, Gov't Mule's 2003 tribute to their late bassist Allan Woody. Guest bassists are Jack Casady, Les Claypool, Jason Newsted, George Porter, Jr., Dave Schools, Roger Glover, Mike Gordon, Paul Jackson, Conrad Lozano, Will Lee, Greg Rzab, Rob Wasserman and Victor Wooten. 5 4
loner_t 2,568 Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 @Dnspy007 on Red Barchetta, this part is fantastic... Suddenly, ahead of me, across the mountainside A gleaming alloy air-car, shoots towards me, two lanes wide I spin around with shrieking tires, to run the deadly race Go screaming through the valley as another joins the chase Run like the wind Straining the limits of machine and man Laughing out loud With fear and hope, I've got a desperate plan At the one-lane bridge I leave the giants stranded At the riverside Race back to the farm To dream with my uncle At the fireside... 2 1
DrummerJuice 1,284 Posted July 8, 2018 Author Posted July 8, 2018 All great stuff. I was wondering when Rush and Primus would arrive. Still no Tool? This classic Police tune gets me every time! 5 minutes ago, loner_t said: @Dnspy007 on Red Barchetta, this part is fantastic... Neil Peart was one hell of a lyricist as well as one of my favorite drummers of all time! 5 1 3

Daddyjt 8,807 Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 Here’s a track that is BRUTALLY difficult for most systems to get right. One of my go-to tracks for checking proper bass delivery. If it’s AT ALL boomy or bloated, there’s work to be done - it should come across as tight and punchy, but subtle at the same time. When it’s right, you’ll know... 2

niccolosito 328 Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 If you're not a baby boomer born in England or in the Philippines, you most likely have never heard of this tune from The Shadows showcasing original bassist Jet Harris. 1
PhilDent 1,796 Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 When I used to jam with friends, I always enjoyed playing this bassline. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3W6yf6c-FA This guy has always amazed me. He's truly an original and in a league of his own. 2 2
