Bob Baldwin's "Henna" was released on February 7, 2020.

Bob Baldwin is not a new name, but certainly, one that deserves wider recognition for the insurmountable influence he has had on the smooth-jazz genre. His resume includes many citations of achievement for a career that began in 1983 that brought forth his debut album, A Long Way to Go, released in 1988. Baldwin has garnered five SESAC Music awards. His 2015 release, MelloWonder: Songs in the Key of Stevie, honors Stevie Wonder and debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard Overall Jazz Chart. His latest endeavor, Henna is Baldwin’s 31st release which lends tribute to the earth’s beauty, Baldwin explains, “The beauty of our earth produces so many great and prosperous things. In fact, people have actually lived off of the virtues of this beautiful earth for thousands of years.” The album personnel overall is twenty-two amazingly talented musicians strong, which includes well-known contemporary collaborators, Walter Beasley, Jorel Flynn, Marion Meadows, Joey Sommerville, Ragan Whiteside, and Lori Williams.

Al Di Meola, Across The Universe will be released Friday, March 13, 2020

It seems like a no-brainer.

Take a world class guitarist, set him loose on some Beatle songs and Hoover up the sales.

But that’s not how veteran musician Al Di Meola approaches his interpretations of the Fab Four’s catalog. Rather, the famed jazz guitarist who got his start shredding fusion licks with Return to Forever and has since logged approximately 30 solo albums in both acoustic and electric formats, takes this Beatles-cover business seriously. Those who heard his first crack at the band’s iconic material on 2013’s All Your Life where he tackled 14 Lennon-McCartney tracks, know this is no quick cash-grab. Volume two, arriving seven years later, is just as impressive.

Sam Gendel's Satin Doll was released on March 13, 2020.

Sam Gendel plays like a man trying to erase his instrument. The Californian saxophonist – perhaps best-known for his thoughtful collaborations with Moses Sumney and bassist Sam Wilkes – has long been honing slippery improvisations, pitch-bending his harmonies and sliding over rhythms. His latest LP, Satin Doll, is his most fully formed yet and pushes this experimentation to its furthest extreme, his sax sounding like melting wax on his 13 cover versions of jazz standards.

Creed Fisher's Outlaw Influence Volume 1 was released on March 6, 2020. This is old school country music with a touch of Hank Jr. influence.

"If you listen to a just a few tracks from his latest album, you might think Creed Fisher was born with a guitar in his hand. One after another, his songs are so relevant today, yet steeped in tradition that you may think you missed out on a classic that everyone else already knows. However, this West Texas native only picked up a guitar seven short years ago to start writing and performing. And with nothing more than some hard times and soul searching, Fisher weaves a familiarity into his songs that is more often found in the timeless hits of well known artists."

David Reece, Cacophony of Souls was released on March 13, 2020

"There are things that are simply a perfect match. In this case, it also includes the combination of David Reece/Andy Susemihl. The great voice of the US rock star paired with the virtuosity and the feeling for first-class guitar riffs of the former U.D.O./Sinner string witcher Susemihl are the top ingredients for a first-class metal album."

Really enjoyed this Flamenco version of Take 5.  Had not heard of the artists until now....but these guys Rock!

I don't recall if you have to be a certain level contributor or not, but if you have access to the Austin City Limits archives https://acltv.com/ , Rodrigo y Gabriela did one helluva show on Austin City Limits. I record that show weekly, and most of the time it's deleted in the first 5 minutes. However, occasionally there's a gem that I watch a few times, and where I discover some artist that I wasn't aware of.

Hi Sk1bum,

Thank you for sharing!  Funny thing is, I live in the Austin area.  There's so much music here, you cant possibly take it all in.

If any of you make your way here (after the Covid-apocalypse, of course!)  Be sure to check out Parker Jazz Club and The elephant Room.  🙂
