Kim Waters, Shakedown was released on June 12, 2020.

"Kim Waters has enjoyed a career longevity that is rare in the music business. For three decades, the prolific chart-topping saxophonist, composer and producer, has reigned as one of the premier architects of Urban Smooth Jazz and a beacon of light in Contemporary Jazz. He ‘s garnered praise from critics and fans alike, ranking among the top five best-selling instrumentalists in jazz. “New music continues to come out, which gives the world something to lift them up and share with family and friends,” states Waters, whose new and 24th recording as a leader, Shakedown offers a thrilling ten-track escape meant to catapult us to a happier frequency."

House Of Lords, New World - New Eyes was released on June 12, 2020.

"“New World - New Eyes” is House Of Lords’ twelfth studio album, following the well-received “Saint Of The Lost Souls”. Recorded and produced by the band’s singer and mastermind James Christian, this collection of songs has an incredible flow of up-tempo and mid-tempo rockers mixed with power ballads, which lean a bit more toward keyboards this time around, but without compromising the band's trademark sound, which is based around Jimi Bell’s guitar work."

T-Square, AI Factory was released on April 21, 2020.

I can't find a single review of this album anywhere, so here's my take. This is Japanese jazz fusion, very smooth with great segues between the instrumentalists. Saxophone, horns, piano, guitars all blend very well together with catchy melodies. If you like The Rippingtons, then you'll like T-Square.

Jason Miles & Kind of New, Black Magic was released on March 6, 2020.

"Like his first album under the Kind of New moniker, a 2015 collaboration with trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, Jason Miles’ Black Magic is all about steep, deep jazz-funk groove-making, catchy melodies, and no-holds-barred solo romps, with more than a few nods to the brand of ’70s electric jams associated with the pianist/keyboardist’s onetime employer, Miles Davis. Unlike the earlier disc, the new one is more of a band effort, featuring a group he recently led on a tour of Europe: saxophonist Jay Rodriguez, trumpeter Philip Dizack, bassist Reggie Washington, and drummer Gene Lake."

Siena Root, The Secret Of Our Time was released on March 20, 2020.

"Siena Root has returned and graced us all with The Secret of Our Time. The Secret of Our Time is Siena Root’s latest offering that comes three years after the stellar 2017’s A Dream of Lasting Peace."

The Night Flight Orchestra, Aeromantic was released on February 28, 2020.

"Aeromantic is a decadent, melancholic but life affirming assault on all of your senses. THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA has expanded their sound, and »Aeromantic« is an album that contains all your guilty pleasures, everything from mind-melting hard rock, sultry soul grooves, new age bleakness, shameless pop songs and death-defying power ballads."

Caligula's Horse, Rise Radiant was released on May 22, 2020.

"With 2017’s In Contact, Australian quintet Caligula’s Horse set a new benchmark for delivering simultaneously thunderous and touching progressive metal odes that connect through an ambitious scope and larger-than-life narration. It's almost inarguably their greatest accomplishment yet, so they clearly had considerable pressure to compose a satisfying follow-up. Fortunately, they absolutely do with Rise Radiant."

Neil Young, Homegrown was released today, June 19, 2020.

"Rocker Neil Young's latest album has been a long time coming. Forty-five years to be exact.

Homegrown, out today, is "the one that got away", Young, 74, writes on the Neil Young Archives.

Homegrown features songs recorded in 1974 and 1975 and was initially set to be released in 1975, serving as the "unheard bridge" between "Harvest" and "Comes A Time." Emmylou Harris was among the contributors. But Young pulled the plug. His relationship with girlfriend Carrie Snodgress was ending and, as he later revealed, the music was too personal, too painful to release."

Cecilie Strange, Blue was released on March 29, 2020.

"Blue is a strong outing for saxophonist Cecilie Strange. The six original songs are performed with exquisite and delicate expressivity. This quartet speaks in a language that combines Nordic Jazz with the sounds of classic jazz. The result is something beautiful, something Strange and something Blue."

Dion, Blues with Friends was released on June 5, 2020.

"Dion - Blues With Friends: a fabulous album from a singular treasure

Dion returns in some style on Joe Bonamassa’s label, with all-star backing on Blues With Friends

Bona fide rock legends are pretty rare these days. Now in his 80th year, Dion DiMucci is one of the last men standing from the golden age of rock’n’roll, a creative force for whom simply being a survivor isn’t enough. Instead he’s continued to progress as the millennium has worn on, releasing a series of blues-rooted albums that bear little resemblance to the records that made him famous back in the late 1950s."

Flat Five, This Is Not The Blues was released on April 20, 2020.

"Young band from South Korea formed in 2017 and who have worked hard to present their first album to the world. It should not be easy in the Asian country to play blues music, and even less to carry out a project until obtaining results like this "This Is Not The Blues", recorded in Seoul and mixed in London, but these five musicians have succeeded. The result is these eight songs composed with a great predisposition, played with fidelity and generosity and sung by a female vocalist of temperament and good harmonic registers. Interesting to know about their work from a musical culture as different and distant as that of these young interlocutors."

Flat Five is a South Korean blues band, and despite the title, this is the blues. The opening track, Sit By The River, starts with an organ solo, and then moves into some BB King inspired guitar work. The female lead singer's voice has a (to me) surreal quality, and she reminds me a bit of Susan Tedeschi.

This album gets a 7 on the Sk1Bum 10 point scale. I enjoy it quite a bit, but it probably won't make it to regular rotation. :D

There is another group that calls (or called) themselves Flat Five from Chicago.
