Sk1Bum 9,863
Thom Rotella is certainly not new, but it's new to me, and I am enjoying this album a great deal. Some tracks remind me of The Rippingtons, and some tracks make me think Pink Floyd meets The Rippingtons, and some of it reminds me of Al Di Meola. The Thom Rotella Band, The Thom Rotella Band was released in 1987. This is very good with Sonic Holography engaged on the main 2 channel rig. https://www.discogs.com/artist/752202-Thom-Rotella

Charlie 16,429
The album features eleven tracks. Nelson and Cannon co-wrote two originals for the album, while the remaining tracks include compositions by Chris Stapleton, Toby Keith and Pete Graves. The title track was written by Randy Houser, Allen Shamblin and Mack Vickery. The closing track of the album is a cover of Roy Clark's "Yesterday When I Was Young", originally written by Charles Aznavour as "Hier encore". Sk1Bum 9,863
Muddy Manninen (formerly of Wishbone Ash), River Flows was released on October 23, 2020. "Muddy Manninen’s ‘River Flows’ is an aptly titled album that has a sense of time, space and just like the name of his label, presence. It’s an album that drips with feel, experience and at times explores a retrospective feel. It’s the work of an independent musical spirit who obviously has much to impart outside of the somewhat more restrictive musical straight jacket of his former band Wishbone Ash." Sk1Bum 9,863
Peter Bernstein, What Comes Next was released on October 16, 2020. “Without the question mark, What Comes Next implies that you have some idea, some intention,” Bernstein explains. “That seems like such a huge concept now, but it’s inherent to the very idea of playing jazz. It’s the basic question that we deal with all the time when we’re given the freedom to improvise: now what do I play? What note should come next? Where are we in the conversation? With everybody’s lives being put on hold, that idea can be extended beyond the fact of just playing music.” You can read the rest of the review here...
Sk1Bum 9,863
Reb Beach, A View From The Inside was released on November 6, 2020. "Reb Beach's A View From The Inside is an instrumental shred-fest from the former Winger and latterday Whitesnake guitarist. Here’s one for fans of the kind of solo guitar wizardry that is the stock-in-trade of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai – although Reb Beach would argue that this is a direct descendant of Steve Morse’s work in Dixie Dregs." Sk1Bum 9,863
Jeremiah Johnson, Unemployed Highly Annoyed was released on October 30, 2020. "...Where Heavens to Betsy featured a variety of songwriting styles and even used a horn section, Unemployed is Johnson and his rhythm section, with additional keyboards courtesy of bassist/producer Paul Niehaus IV, tapping into all of the emotions described in the album title. The songs are punk in their visceral bursts of anger, but pure blues rock in Johnson’s vocals and wild guitar work." weitrhino 1,425
I'm looking forward to the brand new release from Roa's Ark. The band consists of Carl Roa (Magic Elf) on guitar, Vic Romaine (Steve Morse, Kansas, Nena, etc.) on drums, and the one and only Dave LaRue (Satriani, Vinnie Moore, Pat Travers, Steve Lukather, Mike Stern, Eric Johnson, Andy Timmons, Albert Lee, Ace Frehley, Vai, etc.) on bass. Judging by this new single, 'Joker's Wild,' Roa's Ark goes straight for the jugular. https://roasark.bandcamp.com/track/jokers-wild

Sk1Bum 9,863
Nick Cave, Idiot Prayer was released on November 5, 2020. "Intimate, one-time-only concert film, shot at London’s empty Alexandra Palace, showed new depth to the Bad Seeds leader’s repertoire. For decades, Nick Cave has flanked himself at concerts with at least half a dozen members of his band, the Bad Seeds. Dressed in black leisure suits with widely flayed collars, like a gang of 1970s accountants out on the town, they always appeared to have his back — not just by filling his dusky songs with violin and vibraphones, but also emotionally, as he sang about failed romance, grief, and enormity. No matter what he sang, with the Bad Seeds behind him, you knew he would be all right." You can read the rest of the review here...

Sk1Bum 9,863
Dave Koz, A New Day was released on October 9, 2020. "Dave Koz’s ‘A New Day’ is the saxophonist’s first solo album of original material since ‘Hello Tomorrow’ in 2010. This legend of Smooth Jazz delivers an album that will not disappoint his legion of fans and ranks, alongside the classic ‘The Dance’ from 1999, as his finest work." Daddyjt 8,606
Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees has released a collection of country duets with a plethora of huge names. The album is quite good, and if you get the “target exclusive” version, you’ll get two bonus tracks:-) https://www.target.com/p/barry-gibb-greenfields-the-gibb-brothers-songbook-vol-1-target-exclusive-cd/-/A-81880913

Sk1Bum 9,863
The Sokratis Votskos Quartet, Sketching the Unknown was released on November 14, 2019. "Much of Sokratis Votskos’s music has been defined by his desire to use it as a means of exploring his own past and his own heritage while intertwining it with contemporary styles and compositions seeking to carve his own new path as a result." Sk1Bum 9,863
Sophie Kay, Turbulent Blues was released on November 27, 2020. "Sophie Kay recorded this album over several years. From 2017 to 2020 she laid down on Protools with the precious help of her favorite sound engineer Denis Goltser, songs hidden in the back of a drawer written decades ago (Welcome Sweet Little Angel, a half English and French song lyrics)) years ago (The low down way you do, a feminist song) and more recently songs composed in reaction to the news reported by the media, a news that is always more mortifying. Are we so insignificant to deserve this, could appear as a conclusion of this album. Such an idea could starts a new recording. The album ends up with a similar idea with the song “I didn’t speak out”. Sooner or later, everyone could be reduced in a boiled mess, for not having reacted in time, for not having been able to put into action the deep mankind that we all have. "Sophie Kay combines the bite of the classic blues woman like Ida Cox with the sultry tone of a parisian chanteuse. The two styles blend perfectly and the mix might explode to your head, watch out, attention" (David Evans, bluesman, ethnomusicologist, Memphis University) You can read the review here...
