Ahmed El-Salamouny, Rio Rhythms was released on December 11, 2020.

In his album, “Rio Rhythms”, Ahmed El-Salamouny, the specialist for Brazilian guitar music, lets listeners experience the magic of Brazil. The seventeen pieces on the CD are an exciting mixture of Brazilian rhythms delivered in a manner that is at times poetic and dreamy and at times highly virtuosic.

Jimi Tenor, Aulos was released on November 6, 2020.

"you’ll find “Afroeuropean” a blissful slice of Afrojazz-funk, stuffed full of polyrhythmic mantra, once again courtesy master percussionists, Ghanian Ekow Alabi Savage and Max Weissenfeldt from Germany, the latter of whom also manned the faders throughout; vibraphonic ring; space-funk guitar breaks, big, big brass joy."

The Groove Project, Volume 1: Flights of Fantasy was released on June 26, 2020.

"Refreshing, new and innovative compositions from producer and guitarist Arun Shenoy and his eight-piece ensemble, The Groove Project. What you will hear is upbeat and energizing, good for keeping your pace up while exercising, running and powering through the day, and plenty left over for moving all night on the dance floor. There are some tracks where the groove relaxes and you can feel the tension fade away. There is diversity here, and inventiveness and creativity. There is emotion in each track. And you will fly."

Zippy Limit, Rencontre was released on November 13, 2020.

"The name of the Zippy Limit group means nothing! It was a musician friend who called this song Zippy or Zippy Limit. When we were looking for a name for our band, we thought these two words sounded good together!

As for the title of the album Rencontre, this project is a real human encounter. Hervé the bassist, Jean-Pierre the drummer and Christophe the pianist had formed JPCM Trio.

A Jam gave us the opportunity to play together with Jean-Marc the saxophonist and Eric the guitarist. We immediately found ourselves on the same page and the idea of creating a group of compositions was obvious."

Semblant, Obscurra was released on March 6, 2020.

"A rapidly rising act in the South American metal scene, Semblant are more than ready to take the world stage. The band have already received international praise from the metal community with the 2014 release of their second album ‘Lunar Manifesto’, the singles from which (‘What Lies Ahead’, ‘Dark Of the Day’ and ‘Incinerate’) have racked up over 30 million views on YouTube. They are now ready for the next phase of their career with the upcoming release of their highly anticipated new album, ‘Obscura’."

While I'm not a fan of much death metal, Mizuho Lin's voice is incredible.  A link to Lin singing "Let It Go" from Frozen is below the Semblant link.

Four Tet released two albums, 0000 871 0001· 00110100 01010100 and Parallel on December 24, 2020.

Four Tet truly lets his listeners into his mind and psyche with ‘Parallel’, making us feel what he feels and perceive the world through his eyes. The LP starts right off with an extended 27-minute-long piece, almost like an LP inside an LP, stimulating our ears with celestial sounds, mimicking the softness of rain drops. It is followed by 9 other unmistakable Four Tet songs: soothing ambient mixed with house music, invigorating but also smooth electronic percussions, beautifully composed synth melodies, creating an out-of-this-world experience while listening to the whole piece. The last two songs puts us in a meditative state with nature sounds accompanied by subtle piano music.

He released his other album, ‘871’ as 00110100 01010100, meaning ‘4T’ in binary code. It is the first under this moniker since his 2013 album, ‘0181‘ and it features material produced between August 1995 and January 1997. Although the meaning behind the title remains a mystery, it does imply that the 20-track LP is going to be unconventional. ‘871’ is a thrilling mixture of experimental and psychedelic tunes and sentimental sounds, showing his ability to create an abstract and yet coherent art work. Four Tet put together guitar melodies, tinkling high-pitched instruments, lo-fi electronica, emotional piano tunes and futuristic synth waves to leave the listener in an ethereal space."

60 Miles, Red Light was released on December 15, 2020.

"RED LIGHT is the reflection of a period, a time of disillusioned globalization. It is a critical situation where the multiple alarm signals should push us all to change things. 60 Miles echoes these concerns. Not through "engaged" music in the political sense, but simply by evoking the pulse of this society. 60 Miles cannot do other but feel the vibration of its time and share it through its tools, namely the poetry of sounds and the power of the imagination.

In a period when all the usual processes are unsure, where the place of music is particularly put into question and the existence of many artists seems threatened, 60 Miles are releasing against all odds their new album: RED LIGHT. Like an alarm signal that resonates from the intimate to the other side of the planet."

While I certainly don't share their world view, politics, or philosophy, this is a very talented piano led trio. I enjoyed this album a great deal.

It’s not often that I stumble across Jazz that I really like - it’s just not my thing. However, I do like a handful of artists, including Patricia Barber, Dave Grusin, Tom Grant, etc.

I just came across another addition to my list - Italian Chiara Civello. She has a flat out beautiful voice, and she sings in both English and her native Italian. More of a “modern” or “smooth” jazz, and very enjoyable, AND quite well recorded.

My record store guy recommended Nashville's Emma Swift covers of Dylans stuff. She is no Allison Kraus but it's  a great recording. As you may expect, it has alot more clarity than Dylan's crooning. And much more patience.  A little on the country side of things for the sound but not too much.  Her voice. (I play it loud w/SH) makes the tales quite believable and is an interesting take on Dylan. For a taste, check out "You're A Big Girl Now".

United Progressive Fraternity, Planetary Overlord Part 1 was released on April 19, 2019

"I can't remember a collective of 54 musicians and scientists collaborating on an album and speaking out loud their worries about environment, climate change and humanitarian issues before. United Progressive Fraternity is the first “band” in the world to do so, I believe. But “band” isn't the correct description. Once UPF was a band, but when you look closer to this album, you must conclude that when you invite 54 people to work on the album, I think it is legitimate to speak of a project. The album Planetary Overload will contain two parts. Part 1 is called Loss and has been released in the beginning of 2019. Part 2 will be released later this year."

I think the prog-rock fans will enjoy this album a great deal. I think folks that place a high emphasis on environmental, climate, and humanitarian concerns will enjoy the album too.

Melody Gardot, Sunset In The Blue was released on October 23, 2020.

"This is Gardot reunited with producer Larry Klein and arranger Vince Mendoza returning to the lustrously upholstered ballad style first heard on My One and Only Thrill in 2009. The voice is close-miked, a mix of the sensual and vulnerable, channelling the ghost of Julie London; echoes too of Diana Krall’s The Look of Love – a photogenic jazz maiden making sweet music designed to be heard far beyond the jazz basements."

I just want to take a moment and thank all that have contributed to this thread - it has evolved into exactly what I hoped it would, and has become one of my favorite places to visit on the site. I have found so much new music that I enjoy, that I most likely never would have found had it not been for you all sharing so freely.

THANK YOU!

The Pretty Reckless, Death By Rock And Roll will be released tomorrow, February 12, 2021.

"Claiming authenticity is hard when you’ve spent your career imitating rock legends, but The Pretty Reckless are one of the few hard rock revival acts that have actually ridden debauchery into a downward spiral. Death By Rock And Roll details how the passing of their long-term producer Kato Khandwala and tourmate Chris Cornell left the band immeasurably scarred."

Daniel Weiss, Dive was released on January 29, 2021.

"The playful album integrates the soulful with the calculated with elements of world music and jazz coming in contact with Daniel’s Jazz and progressive rock influences. This album combines the good times of the real world, the day to day, with the boundlessness of imagination, fantasy, hope and positivity."

Blue Oyster Cult, The Symbol Remains was released on October 9, 2020.

"Back with their first new studio album in almost two decades, the enigmatic prog-metallers deliver their fiercest album since the ’70s.

The Symbol Remains is unashamedly a modern take on Blue Öyster Cult’s classic sound, but the album’s restless energy marks it out as perhaps their most vibrant outing since the ’70s. With all cylinders firing in the song-writing department, long-term fans will find much to love here."

Mansur, Karma was released on December 11, 2020.

"MANSUR is the newly initiated project by Jason Kohnen (ex-The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble) joined by Dimitry El-Demerdashi (ex-Phurpa) and introducing Martina Horváth on vocals. The sound of MANSUR navigates between the waters of musical fantasy and reality - it morphs and blends traditional instrumentation with modern day electronica."
