Greetings From Arizona

Recommended Posts

Hello and Good Morning Everyone,

Thanks for allowing me to join your community!  By way of introduction,  I am a long-time Carver fan and collector, starting with an M-500t back when they were new.  It took me all of a couple of days to realize that the M-500t needed a proper pre-amp, so back to the shop to purchase a C-1.  I am proud to say that both amp and pre-amp are still in my possession and in working order.  The C-1 was recently repaired and converted to include the remote volume control.  My talent is in buying electronics, selling, not so much.

Today my original pieces are joined by another M-550t, (2) M-1.0t's converted to MkII configuration, another C-1, a C-16 and countless M-200's.  Well, about 4-5 of the M-200's.  The aforementioned are all in working order.  There are numerous other pre-amps and CD players in various states of disrepair.  Now you all have insight into the depth of my Carver addiction.

Home has been the Phoenix area for the last 6-7 yrs, were I retired after 20+ yrs, working for a well-known computer chip manufacturer.  Aside from the first 18 months in chip manufacturing process development, my work was in systems R&R.  I know just enough about design and manufacturing of phones to servers to be dangerous.

Another time consuming hobby that takes way to much of my time is speaker design and building, which I indulge in when not dusting and caring for audio equipment.  After paying way to much for endless name brand speaker systems it became apparent that with some practice I could build equivalent speakers without the hefty price tag.  Twenty years later I am still practicing with varying degrees of success.

Thanks everyone for allowing me to introduce myself.  I am excited to become a part of your online community.

Hello Ed, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. ;) There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help.

That's an impressive collection of gear, and a BillD C-1 and an M-500t mkII is an incredible combination. There are several excellent techs here who are all capable of helping you keep your gear in order. There are also a few DIY speaker builders here too. You should fit right in.

Once you get to Novice status, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio gear.

In the meantime, kick your shoes off, turn up the music, and welcome aboard.

Thanks you  for the warm welcome.  Phoenix has been a great place to live while looking for a permanent retirement location.  After looking for nearly 9 months I was finally able to buy an acre outside of Show Low, where I'm having a house built.  If progress on the house stays on schedule the move will happen in Oct.  I'll miss the conveniences of city living, but am looking forward to a rural setting.

Thank you all for a warm welcome.  In return I am answering the call for pictures.  I am not going to show everything right away, there is to much photo resizing involved.  Just know that what you see in not the extent of my Audio Nervosa.  There is more, much more....enjoy.

Guess I need to break it down to multiple uploads.  First photo, the active Carver rack.

Welcome, Ed. Can't wait to see how you've got all those M200t's configured!

Enjoy!

Gotta confess, they are currently packed for an upcoming move.  The original plan was to use them for a HT set-up.  Might still use them in that way once moved.  Currently trying to figure out how to get my high-res photos down to a size that meets site limits.

I was planning to use 5 of them to drive my surround speakers and one M1.5t to drive the front speakers, but decided to use 3 - M1.5t for my speakers and one M200t for the center channel in bridge mode.

Got some time this morning to resize photos.

Hope these pictures are a fair representation of the degree of my Carver affliction, let alone my general audio nervosa.  Of whats depicted, only the Kyocera integrated amp is not operational.

Oh, and don't get me started on TT's and R2R's.  Digital was my vocation, but analog has always been my avocation.  I still buy vinyl.
