Nahash5150 9,417
I use mkII. In the past it was interchangeable between mk2 and mkII. Still waiting on @Rob's review... Nekked pic: I should have taken a before pic but I forgot. I was too obsessed with getting it clean because it was filthy. 5
Rob 3,531
The thorough review will be done this weekend. Although I did get a chance to listen to a couple songs last night. ZZ Top and Rush. I have it connected to my CT7 and using my Cerwin Vega V15E’s for now. I will be going back and forth between those CV’s and the Polk’s SDA SRS’s and I also will have the TFM 55 to add a competitive atmosphere. I know those 2 aren’t really comparable but it is the only amp I have that is even close to the 4.0-SS. Although I already know that I can’t go past 2 o’clock with either amp on the CV’s. And that is 3 lights down on the 4.0 so I need more speakers. I know it’s not all about the power and how loud it can get, or maybe it is. 😎 Edited June 3, 2021 by Rob 3

kve777 6,132
I never said "Best". Just proper, ie. no Cerwin Vega speakers! LOL VPI Scout 1.1 w/Ortofon 2M Black, tube phono pre, Conrad Johnson Premier 17LS2 tube pre, OPPO BDP-105D, Tekton Pendragon speakers with a PSB Stratus SubSonic 3i sub.

Rob 3,531
Here is the first night of my review. I only have 2 pair of speakers to do this review and everyone has their favorite speakers like Cerwin Vega's @kve777. So last night I moved those out and moved in the Polks. Starting off with Greg's ability to make everything look like new. Very clean inside along with a beautiful faceplate, big binding posts, new RCA jacks, and new socket. I told him I wanted all the upgrades accept for the blue LED's. I like the stock LED's better. No turn on thumps or bumps and an overall very quiet amp. I am VERY pleased with everything. I am not a professional critic or story teller so maybe my words are pretty vague for most but here it goes. I started out by trying to select a varied selection of music for the night and in this order. Started with: Scorpions - Worldwide Live Van Halen II Motley Crue Motley Crue Three Dog Night - Harmony Santana - Greatest Hits I like bright in my face or ears kind of music so when I am told that the 1.5 is brighter than the 1.0, I don't really see it that way and maybe because I turn the knobs and make everything bright. I turn it up as loud as the speakers can handle and then adjust trebles and bass to try and squeeze a little more into those speakers so this is how I measure the performance of the power capability. In a one year period since I met Greg and joined the group its been all Carver ever since and with good reason, the equipment is worth it and it impresses everyone that comes over and wants to listen. The 1.0 and the 1.5 are really good amps but there is something about the 4.0 that they don't have. So after listening to a few of my favorite songs from each album at about 50% power everything sounded amazing with so much clarity and depth. ( I did have the SH off) The live album was so perfect that I thought I was in Tacoma WA back in the early 90's when I attended a Scorpions concert there. Eddy Van Halen and his guitar riffs were awesome and clear. And then after topping it of with Santana's - OYE COMO VA, the hits of the Bongo's were everywhere in the room and not just in front of me. It was like instruments were all around me and with clarity and snap and plenty of chest compression episodes to boot. So much bass even with the bass knob almost off. I am very happy so far. Tonight the CV's go back in for a heavy metal night. Edited June 5, 2021 by Rob 3 3
Rob 3,531
Frickin WOW!!!!! When it comes to the style of music and listening that I do @Nahash5150 hit the nail on the head with this power house. And my Cerwin Vega V15E's were handling the amp extremely well. Those Polks cant handle what I was able to put through the CV's . Those CV's and that amp are the PERFECT match. There is no more speaker dilemma and no more amp searching. This MKII upgrade is extremely recommended. If anyone is interested in a TFM55, I have one for sale. Edited June 6, 2021 by Rob 1
Butcher 605
You've mentioned your SRS speakers, but your sig shows "SRS 2". Do you have both, or have you been using the SRS 2 for this test?

Butcher 605
The SRS 2 were the half-sized version of the original SRS. Not enough cone area for that much power. 2
Rob 3,531
They definitely sound good but like you said, can’t handle that much power. My V15E’s Cerwin Vega’s actually handled up to 3 o’clock on the volume. That was just incredible. Only about 1 o’clock on the Polk’s. That's what makes them so great imo. I just had mine at 10 o'clock and got yelled at again by my 7 yr old. Said he can't hear his friends talking over the headset with his bedroom door closed. Rob 3,531
Well, @gburke just left here and I imagine his ears won't be the same for awhile. That 4.0 paired with the V15E's just keeps getting better and better. Edited June 13, 2021 by Rob
