Hi

Good to find the community!

Got a TD-1700.  Stripped and re-lubed the mechanism, new belts and tyre, mechanical and electrical alignment all done and it is making great recordings and playback!

Welcome @JonG.

Glad you found us.  This is a great place.

We'd love to see posts of your TD-1700 project.

Start a new thread and document your restoration!  It might help another member in the future.

That's a great old tape deck.  If you don't have the remote, they come up on Ebay from time to time.

Thanks everyone!

For the TD-1700, I put up a search on the bay for the remote.

I spent much of last weekend reverse engineering the protocol, I think I got it so I have programmed a learning remote and now have full control of the transport.

Hello JonG, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. ;) There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help.

Congrats on the remote, and for 'cloning' it to the learning remote.

Once you get to Novice status, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio gear.

In the meantime, kick your shoes off, turn up the music, and welcome aboard.

Welcome to the site, @JonG!  It's a nice change to have someone coming in talking about a tapedeck.

Nice one, BTW, and nice to hear you have it cleaned up and working great.  :D

Just beware, according to the inescapable rules of OCCD, Carver gear is a lot like potato chips - you can't have just one - others will call out to you!  xD  I know, I tried ... and failed miserably at sticking to 1 piece.
