Hello Carversite

Recommended Posts

Just joined up here - because I ws lucky enough to grab a FREE Carver HR-895 off FB Marketplace...owner said the amp didn't work, and he cldn't fix ... but no plm for me, because the amp and preamp can be separated (as everyone here knows) ... have a nice tube amp, and the Carver drives it fine ... in fact, the 20+ yr old Carver sounds better than the 2 yr old Emotiva ... need to get an outboard DAC for it ...

Is there a more comprehensive list of specs for the unit ?? Looking for preamp voltage, input sensitivity and output impedance ...

Welcome Clark,

My one and only Carver Receiver was an HR-895, which I loved until it smoked and I didn't know how to fix it.

Since then I've gone from 5.1 to 2.2 stereo using a trio of TFM-25's with a pair of subs and I'm happy with that.  Do post some pics of your other gear-- we love porn.

Enjoy the CarverSite!

Welcome @kappclark.  Glad you found us.

Bill, have a look in the Manuals Library.  You'll find the user manual and the service manual.

The 895 is a nice unit.  I have one, but not in use at the moment.   Also, I think there's at least one other member here that uses their 895 presently, and has even repaired it..., not sure if he'll pipe in or not.  Generally, that receiver had some bad/crummy capacitors in it..., mind did, replacing those made it perform.

As @jazzman53 said, we love pictures... Tell us more about your amp, and what sources you use, speakers?  😉

I didn't look, but you might find the answer to your question there.

Hello kappclark, and welcome to thecarversite.com. We're glad you're hear. ;) There is a lot of information here, much technical know how, and a pretty good bunch of folks that are happy to help.

Once you get to Novice status, please consider uploading some pics of your gear in the Members Systems area. We all like pics of all kinds of audio gear.

In the meantime, kick your shoes off, turn up the music, and welcome aboard.

A slightly belated Welcome, Clark!   Glad to have you.

Using the 895 as a pre sounds like great use for it.  I can't offer advice on repairs to the amp (other than don't listen to any of my advice on repairs to the amp), but there are lots of folks here who can offer guidance, or even do repairs, so you are in the right place.  That said, if you're driving a tube amp with it, you may never care about the poweramp section.  :D
