Hello,

Here is a quick Q&A video with Bob. The site was being updated that day and the member questions were not available at the time of recording. I remembered a few. I'll record a zoom call with Bob next week and go though the questions in detail. Recorded June 14th 2023. Snohomish, WA.

Thanks.

I am curious why Bob didn’t have dual speaker outputs (A/B) on his offerings?

His gear has plenty of power….

Hey Itch,

I'll ask Bob today. A guess would be the lack of control over the impedance curves relative to the overlap of 2 pairs of speakers. Dips could line up presenting a zero ohm load possibly.

As long as both pairs were 8 ohms nominal without crazy impedance dips, in would be fine. Guessing the likely hood of customers running mixed speakers and the unknown impedance combinations is why. Two pairs of 4 ohms would be 2 ohms nominal. The dips from 2 ohms nominal would be extreme. I'll be back.

Bob mentioned the receivers being more function oriented, while he wanted the amplifiers to be clean and simple, primarily.

NEW QUESTION for Bob.

Hi @Ar9Jim.

A question came up on the CarverSite FB group recently.

"Why didn't Carver Corp come out with a "Parametric Graphic Equalizer" component?"

Ed Blackwood, a Carver Corp., insider, replied to someone who said that Phase Linear had one, -- He/Ed noted that the PL graphic equalizer was designed by another engineer, AFTER Bob had left PL.  so, ..., the question is valid.

I have some guesses as to why, but wonder if you could tee this Question up with Bob, and get his take on it.

Thanks,

AJ

I'll ask AJ.. That's a good question.. I know Bob helped Audio Control with designs to help get them started. The founder is a friend of Bobs.

Phase Linear came out with a couple different EQ's (Model 1400, Model 1100)... I wonder if Bob had any input to those designs before he left PL.

I have the Model 1400 and it's a really nice piece.

According to Ed Blackwood, an insider, who is active on TheCarverSite FB group and other PL and Carver FB groups, Bob did not have input on the two EQ's from PL.   Why?  Ed Blackwood points out that the EQ's from Phase Linear were designed by another engineer and came out after Bob had left PL, and PL was acquired.

Here's a snippit of that thread from just a day ago.  BTW, I believe that the anime avatar with the Japanese font name is our TCS member "@basspig."

Thanks, I love that kind of history... fascinating.   I would love to have worked with all those audio pioneers back in the day.

My question for Bob:

As a long time Carver fan with many solid state amps, e.g., a400x, silver9Ts, m500tmkii’s, why should I buy the new Carver tube amps? Do they sound that much better than the stellar sound I’m enjoying now with my solid state gear?
